Took a walk to the local public museum. They have an Apollo capsule on display. This particular one wasn’t used in a mission, but was a training capsule used in the 60s and 70s.
It was lost at sea on a training mission in 1970. It was found by Russians later that year, who actually gave it back to the US. The Smithsonian then restored it and gifted it to the city of Grand Rapids MI. Local high schools used it as a time capsule, stuffed it with stuff in 1976, to be opened in 2076.

Only a short walk today into town (Halifax) where there is a craft and food fair on in the piece hall.

The piece hall has recently undergone a £19million pound investment and transformation to once again make it into a cultural and heritage focal point for the town. It was built in the late 1700’s as a cloth trading centre and is quite unique.

Here’s a photo of one side with the impressive spire of Halifax minster in the background.

There's plenty of space to walk around an Airfield, which I did yesterday (Wednesday) on a visit to Imperial War Museums, Duxford.

There is some hugely impressive hardware there and fortunately it was a lovely sunny day.

A few pics.

You can't really see it in this head-on photo, but this is the NHS Spitfire belonging to the Aircraft Restoration Companythat has 'THANK U NHS' painted on the underside of the wing/fuselage/wing

Did you manage to see the Polish Heritage Flight Aircraft, namely a Spitfire and Hurricane in the colours of the famous 303 squadron? These two amazing fighters are due to go on tour to Europe ending with a flight over Warsaw. The Laguna Spitfire Legacy and TRIBUS are very much involved. I’ve been fortunate to have spent time with the team who allowed me access to the aircraft.

Are those last two of a PBY Catalina? The Catalina is a beautiful plane, one of my favorites! I’d love to see one up close.

Sadly no, Richard.

There is an enormous amount to see at IWM Duxford and being with my Girlfriend/Partner and her 6yo Grandson we rather whizzed around only about half of the exhibits/displays.

Another time perhaps.

Yup, Andrew.

Its a PBY-5A Catalina operated by Plane Sailing Air Displays Ltd. that is based at Duxford. It seemed to be doing 'Bumps and Circuits' in the afternoon.

There was also a Grumman Wildcat, as featured in the video below, flying around.

. . .plus a Spitfire from the Aircraft Restoration Company up in the air.

A great day out.

I love Duxford. I used to accompany my history teaching colleague on day trips there with coachloads of children. As you say, the displays are quite amazing and there is so much to take in; too much, in fact, for a single visit.

On one occasion, a sunny early summer’s day rather like the ones we’ve had lately, we were really fortunate to see a Spitfire up and flying loops, rolls and figures of eight. Some of the children were bemused to see a pair of grown men getting all misty eyed, but to be fair I think some of them were moved as well.

Sounds like Duxford is a lot like the two Smihsonian Air & Space museums here in DC. They were my favorites as a kid and remains so today
