Thanks to everyone for the positive comments. In 10 days this watch has barely been off my wrist during the daytime except to shower and swim (and one day for the Speedie). I think it's time for a change, though this could be a serious "One-Watch" contender! :D

To answer a few points...

The one in the picture is Olhos d'Agua on the Algarve. It's between the large resorts of Vilamoura and Albufeira, and its pretty quiet. The main road is on a ridge behind the town, as are most of the hotels &c. It's a steep road down to the town beach, with its lovely blue fishing huts and a scattering of relaxed bars and restaurants.

A lady once asked George Leigh Mallory why he and others wanted to climb Everest. "Because it's there," he replied.

Sadly they are not. But they do change hue in different light conditions, in the same way that blued hands can sometimes look black.

They are. (I have the same watch).

Ineresting. There are certainly lumed dots on the chapter outside the indices, but I detect no lume on the indices themselves. Ant chance of a photo?

EDIT: just seen it - your indices are white lumed Arabics, mine are blue-black batons/Romans.

Err, missed that. Probably also why mine is still fine for all night, plenty of lume area.

Overall, yours has a nice dressy even relaxed vibe, mine feels sternly military. At the time I did buy for its practicality as I was travelling a good deal as far as Japan.

They're both lovely, but quite different. I would certainly prefer sauntering along the Prom' des Anglais or waving from the deck of a gin palace as we glide out from Mandraki... 8)

Agree completely, I am very attached to mine, though it gets little wrist time ATM while no travel. That will change.....

Firenze is on the list! Part of my idea for a book on the Grand Tour! Where's Lucy? :D
Great write up of a watch from a brand that goes its own way. Not my cuppa, but I can understand the allure.

PS Lucy is lying to herself.

Thank you! And I care not – there will always be A Room with a View, and Lucy will always be there.

Always good to read the book. Although perhaps not the greatest writer of all time, Forster did manage to capture an arguably golden period in history.

^^^Thanks, Greg and Pete. I absolutely love it but it is having a week in the box while I give the Meistersinger an extended run in the Sun.

I deliberately delayed posting this, Andrew, until I could actually get here. This is Kato Paphos in winter. It’s in the south-west corner of Cyprus. Busy and hot in the summer, it’s a very different animal at Christmas. Temperatures on a nice day can reach around 20° so it’s very pleasant to stroll around. I have always liked the low-rise white seafront with the harbour and the little Crusader castle. Everywhere is open, nothing is crowded and you are not hassled.

My favourite coffee shop, the Mar Bianco, is half way along the seafront and there is even a watch shop next door! Great spot for people watching. This is the sort of thing I had in mind for the UN, and I think it is certainly in its element here.
