Am I the only one who doesn’t really “get” the Tudor Black Bay series?

^^^ Probably not AVO. :)

Whilst I like the dive based 39mm BB58 range, the plain, non twisty bezel ones in multiple sizes are a no from me.

^^^^ You're not, Steve.

I don't 'get' the Black Bay or any other similar Tudor watch.

I think it is essentially for people who want the versatility of an Explorer but don't want to pay Explorer money. It is also the entry into the Black Bay range at $2500-2700 roughly on strap. They look better in person than they do in photos. The overall Black Bay range is the vintage inspired sports line. The Royal, Pelagos and Advisor are the modern sports watches (to be completely fair Tudor classifies the Pelagos as a Diver which they break out differently). That's how I read it anyway.

I like(ish) the divers but the plain bezel versions are not my cuppa at all.

@rkovars. I get all that. I just don’t seem to like anything the brand produces, with the possible exception of the Ranger, which I thought was a really nice watch. Somebody probably told them that which is why they stopped making it.

I was considering buying a BB36 - especially if Tudor had released a white dial version. But it was more out of lack of any other similar watches at a reasonable price that floated my boat. It always seemed like settling for something rather than something that really called to me. I'm delighted I waited and got a GODO C63 auto instead 8)

That’s exactly how I see the line and why I like them. A blue or black dial in 36mm is quite appealing to me. Now that silver dial looks like an abomination, if I’m being honest.

I like most Tudor releases (a paid up fan boy) and want to like the non-bezel BB’s but they don’t quite work for me. Having three sizes makes it difficult to get the dial balance right; the 41mm is just too big with acres of empty dial whereas the 36mm has got the proportions pretty spot on. I’ve tried the 36 a number of times and it’s just a bit small for me and has a bracelet that I couldn’t even get over my hand... Now if it were 39mm then it could be a very different proposition.

These silver releases seem odd, but maybe this year is the silver Tudor year? However, I’ve not seen one yet so I reserve judgment. If I were seriously in the market for something like this then the two tone steel & gold version on a nice strap is really smart, but pricey for what you get.

I guess I'm a Tudor fan, have 3 currently and have had 5 in all. I'm also not really that keen on the bezel-less models. I think it is good though that they are offering the different size options to cater for different customers but agree it's quite a gap from 36 to 41mm and could probably be plugged with a 38/39mm (much like the 36/42 LLD scenario).

My reaction was immediately "yeuk". Reminds me too much of Seiko Franken watches. But I'm sure it will appeal to many.

That’s a spot in description. I love customized Seikos...I’ve got one...but some just look hideous.

Steve, you can add me to that list as well. I've gone to an AD and tried on several with no joy.
