JLC - NUTS in a good way

Post by Noush »

JLC's new Reverso Hybrid Mechanica Calibre 185 Quadriptyche

With some cut-paste acknowledging GearPatrol:

"This is the most complicated Reverso ever. It's the first wristwatch with 4 faces. It features 3 displays of lunar information, including the synodic cycle, the draconic cycle and the anomalistic cycle.
It's got 11 complications, including a perpetual calendar and a minute repeater. It required 12 patents to be filed. It's made of white gold and limited to 10 pieces. It costs 1.35 million EUR. It's freakin' DOPE."

Yeah, I reckon so too.

Wow. It’s marvellous ie it makes me marvel. I wonder how many people will be lucky enough to see one of these in real life??

About time too. I've been on at Mike France and Adrian Buchmann about this for years now!

 The watchmaker's watch co strikes again. Wonder how many man hours went into the R&D?

It should be hung in the horological Louvre as a masterpiece of watchmaking. Can't say I'd be a buyer though even if I could afford one, it looks waaay to "complicated" for me to understand.

Making me look again at the Reverso in the sales corner as I have always wanted one. I know it's too dressy for most occasions. But, as goofy as it sounds, to be able to feel a small kinship with this maker, it might get worn more than you think. Just had a fairly large outlay on my new Omega AT, so it will have to wait.

The idea of putting a movement (2 movements actually) in the Reverso case is pretty wild. 4 separate movements and a tourbillon and minute repeater is impressive, much like the price.

Utterly amazing, impressive, fantastic and marvelous! Yes, I quite like it.

I’ve put a link to a presentation video in a separate thread (made before I saw this one). Well worth seeing, even if it is a ‘bragging’ video made by JLC.

Thats a very impressive watch. Having seen the video you’ve linked to in the other thread, the price is probably justified for all the work that’s obviously been put into its development and manufacture.

At 15mm thick though for a dress watch, I think I’ll pass...

It’s not the only thing. I see they deliberately omitted any talk of water resistance in their video. If you can’t stick it on a nato and jump in the pool with it, then that might just be strike two.

Link posted elsewhere by @Wis. Recommended if you have a spare 21 minutes. Water resistance would be impossible given how the 2 sections interact.
An incredible piece of human endeavour.

Amazing, but why did they make it?

Probably, simply because they can.
