Last weekend I visited the Duxford Battle of Britain Airshow and what an amazing show it was. From Spitfires and Messerschmitts locked in a battle to spectacular flybys. The ground re-enactments were just as enthusiastic and beautifully staged.
Amongst those participating were several of my friends, including the guys from the Polish Heritage Flight and their 303 Squadron Spitfire, very much the darling of the show given the Squadrons extraordinary contribution to winning the Battle of Britain. Also, I had the opportunity to catch up with the Laguna’s Spitfire Legacy, the team that is restoring a very special Spitfire, in all probability the most valuable on so many levels. Along side them was TRIBUS a major partner of the project. It was great to see Chris along with Jonny and James. We spent a good few hours chatting about stuff. It was also an opportunity to see their collection and in particular the TRI-01 Teal Small Seconds COSC. It was a watch that caught my eye about year ago and boy was I not disappointed. It’s a beautifully designed, engineered and presented watch. The teal dial has that Tiffany look certainly oozes 40s design clues. It didn’t take much persuasion to add it to my collection. I’ll post some photographs once it arrives from Switzerland. In the meantime I’ll include these.
Polish Heritage Flight with the 303 Squadron markings.
Polish Heritage Flight Spitfire.
The solo displays were amazing too.
The Polish Heritage Flight Hurricane, which on this occasion did not fly but arguably won the battle. In the background TRIBUS and the Laguna’s Spitfire Legacy.
The finale was a flyby of Spitfires and Hurricanes, spectacular is an understatement.
The show ended on a perfect note.

That penultimate photograph evokes the memory of The Duxford Big Wing.
What a day for you.

Re: Battle of Britain
It left me exhausted as there was so much to see and do. I probably only experienced a fraction of the show, not forgetting the permanent exhibition too. Everyone I met were so enthusiastic, knowledgeable and welcoming. The ticket price was well worth it plus the generous show discount on a TRIBUS made it for a day to remember. I’m certainly going to attend next year.
As for the Duxford Big Wing, the roar was amazing.

Duxford is a great museum and that looks like a wonderful show. All those Spitfires and Hurricanes. So many Merlin engines. It really must have been a wonderful show.
I don't go to airshows very often but might go more if other brands offered an "on the day" discount
Just a couple from a recent airshow that I photographed from the neighbouring motorcycle racing (long story)
De Havilland Vampire and an interesting F-22 and P-51D combination

It certainly was a wonderful show. I guess after months of lockdown and cancelled events everyone was delighted to be out surrounded by happy faces.albionphoto wrote: ↑Thu Sep 23, 2021 1:32 pm Duxford is a great museum and that looks like a wonderful show. The Spitfire may have been the darling of the show but for me it was this very aircraft a Hawker Hurricane, see link: https://www.historicaircraftcollection. ... ricane.htm

Pretty impressive to get that many spits together at one time. I've only ever seen 1 and it was in a museum.
