This must be my hublot moment
BEAT THIS FOR BONKERS: I'm calling this my hublot moment.
Of course it's a kickstarter watch, let's get that on the table along with some basic specs: 50BAR WR, helium escape valve, limited edition of 200 pieces of which only 20 came with blue lume. Seiko movement with 40hr power reserve, 2 year guarantee. See-through dial.
I selected the rose gold variant of the Blue Lume Special Edition; why? Simply to make this watch stand out as far as possible from any and every other watch I own. It'll be a minor test of my fuddyduddyness
Price? US$319 plus local taxes. At least it didn't come in a box big enough to hold a six-pack of beer! I haven't had the back off yet but the view from the front is very interesting. The dial is clear with the 12, 6 numerals and hour indices appearing to float off the minute track. I guess the movement is set behind the dark grey disc in the centre and the chalky blue disc with what I think are radial slots at hour intervals is the rotor.
Is it a "serious" watch? Well that partly depends on your definition of serious but a nicely coordinated design of case and face, 50BAR of WR and Swiss lume make for serious enjoyment. Marmite? Certainly. Happy? Certainly.
Is it a keeper? Ask me in November.

That's a fair ol' chunk of a watch, Pete.
Certainly out there on the spectrum.

You certainly have succeeded there.tikkathree wrote: ↑Sat Sep 04, 2021 5:52 pm

It's ridiculous (in the best way possible) and fun, and I wouldn't wear it, but I definitely like it, and if I saw it on someone's wrist I'd know they don't take themselves too seriously.

What fun! It wouldn’t get past my personal fuddy-duddyness filter but if you can carry it off, fantastic!

Re: This must be my hublot moment
I actually think that looks pretty decent, other than the "Dive System X01" mechanics on the side of the watch which I'm not sure about.
I think you've passed the fuddyduddy test - you are far more wacky & zany than you thought!

Re: This must be my hublot moment
Its not a "classic" watch at all.
Its a good looking watch in what its obviously trying to do. Its not trying to be what its not and that goes a long way with me.
I love it...!
Its different in almost every way. I like that. Theres too many people doing "homage" watches imo, and not enough fresh ideas.
I wonder about the other colours..........

Re: This must be my hublot moment
I think I was drinking similar amounts of something strong....
I see your hublot moment, and I raise you a standard varient hublot moment
I was genuinely drunk when I bought this and didnt read the spec

Re: This must be my hublot moment
The thing that worries me most, is that theres nothing about it I hate. Im not sure if I need to be drinking more, or less

Top notch, Paul.
It certainly makes a change to the ubiquitous G-Shock.
A great weekend beater, I'll say.
