Good things come to those that wait. But what is it?
Over the years I have put up very few “guess what” or “incoming” threads.
IIRC when I have it has generally related to a specific event, rather than “bought a new watch”.
As I first tried on a variant of this watch in 2014, then again a few more times without buying, I thought I would do a “guess what” for the watch that I finally got my hands on for keeps this morning.
With that in mind any guesses, as to brand and model?
I won’t say correct or incorrect for the brand alone. That would then just be a process of elimination, for those who know one of the styles of watch that I like.

Re: Good things come to those that wait. But what is it?
Why am I thinking a Rolex Explorer One in the new 36 mm size case?

I'll guess at Rolex Oyster Perpetual 36mm.
I'll go out on a limb and say it's the green dial.

I'm not completely sure Neil, but I'm BLiNkeRed by knowing how much you like a Rolex, so will plump for that.

Im agreeing with Downer. But with the white dial
Re: Good things come to those that wait. But what is it?
Well much as I would like to have the new 36mm Explorer, it isn’t. Trying on the TT version last week, confirmed that I do like the proportions.
I do like the new 36mm OPs - silver or green being my preference. I have also worked out that if I did get one Mrs nbg and I could share it, providing that I was prepared to add back links when I wanted to borrow it. However it is also a no for the OP at this stage.
Patrick I think the realistic prospect of me getting a BLRO or BLNR are limited. I don’t spend enough. Not really something that causes me any angst. I just accept the rules of the game have changed.
To save any more Rolex guesses, I confirm that it’s not a Rolex. But equally I haven’t achieved what I thought I would do, which was to buy something other than from a mainstream brand…
I will put up a clue, once I have thought of a suitable one. Well that’s ignoring a couple of clues that appeared outside of this thread.

Re: Good things come to those that wait. But what is it?
^^^ Nigel I did try on one of the new ones last week. I do like the look of the new bracelet and the subtle changes to the dial.
But no.
The previous version is in the can’t sell category. As I bought it in 2015 when I retired.
The watch that I bought is though also a classic that can trace its heritage way back.

That's thrown me a bit as my second guess was going to be a Nomos Orion 38

A JLC Reverso?..
Ebels are a lot like women that lack a lowcut dress that zips up the side..neither gets the love that they deserve..
Re: Good things come to those that wait. But what is it?
^^^ It is indeed Steve.
When it was reintroduced in 2014, my initial thought was a lovely modern reinterpretation of a vintage classic.
However it had male end links which effectively extended the L2L to slightly over 52mm, compared with the actual case L2L of slightly under 48mm. Combined with the case shape it was too big for me. Even though I did try and convince myself otherwise.
This year it was revised:
- female end links so for L2L it is the straight 48mm
- slightly larger dial opening, by slimming the bezel
- lollipop second hand (my clue if required was going to reference the song )
- sandwich dial for the 3, 6, 9, 12
- new movement slimming almost 1mm from the overall height of the watch
- now available with a blue dial in SS (previously the blue was TI
- centre links now brushed, rather than polished (I think they were also brushed on the Spectre version). I am a happy chap.

Re: Good things come to those that wait. But what is it?
That’s lovely, Neil. Many congratulations.
I must admit I did a bit of Sherlock type work. Unlike some of our members who seem to be able to remember every watch everyone has ever mentioned, I’m absolutely useless. So I looked at your posts and did a search based on the word “tried”, then looked at the last few pages to find entries from 2014.
I’m pretty sure that any signed up member can conduct that kind of search – it’s not a moderator privilege.

Re: Good things come to those that wait. But what is it?
I love it when people post incoming threads rather than sneaking new watches into NCWOTD thread - it means we can share the joy
I also enjoy the backstory of how you came to choose this particular watch. Most forumites are way more conscientious than me when it comes to the research!
Enjoy!
watching you fail in your quest for a “one watch” has been great entertainment
