The Oris Divers Sixty-Five Caliber 400 Limited Edition For HODINKEE

Post by Thunder1 »

Right up my alley, except for the price..

Oris x Hodinkee Divers Sixty-Five Caliber 400 Limited Edition

Hodinkee and Oris debuted a limited edition caliber 400 powered version of the Divers Sixty-Five today.

Introducing the Oris x Hodinkee Divers Sixty-Five Caliber 400 Limited Edition, presented in a 38 mm x 12.6 mm stainless steel case with a rivet-style, tapered stainless steel bracelet that measures 19 mm at the lugs.

Just for Hodinkee, the dial has been given a really attractive olive green paint job, with white printed luminous indices and a subtle vintage style Oris logo in white. The military-hued dial next to the glossy black bezel insert — which has an uncharacteristic countdown, not count up bezel — makes a great combo.

I’ve literally just come off the hodinkee site reading about this. Doesn’t do anything for me whatsoever. The only thing I like is the countdown bezel rather than the usual dive bezel. Apart from that, pretty ordinary. I’ll pass.

Agree it’s a bit dull looking, and I don’t think a colab with Hodinkee intrinsically adds any value.

The in-house movement sounds impressive, but the $ premium over a Sellita or ETA is pretty hefty.

Probably not the best person to comment, as I have never seen any great attraction in either Oris as a brand or dive watches in general. But my first thought was: yeah…right…next.

This does seem to be a bit "meh" as they say in the States. Other collabs with Hodinkee have been a bit special but this seems to be on the bland side. I'm sure it's a nice watch but not one I'd rush to buy. It's going to sell out of course but this one seems to have taken hours, not minutes to sell out. Are we getting tired of watch brand x Hodinkee tie ups or is this one just not that special.

I do like the way that Oris seems to double the price of a watch when their Calibre 400 is put in it. There's also a Hodinkee premium too as well I expect.

I really like it, being a fan of less-than-shiny watches in interesting colours. But the price sounds like the answer a six year old would give you when you ask them how many days it is til Christmas, or how many sausages they’d like for tea...

Do you mean they actually want MONEY for it. Geld? Dinero? :megaeek:
Anyway, I had that many sausages for tea last night. And it feels like that many days till I fly to Cyprus for Christmas! :(

I think the design is fine for what it is, but I don't know if it is worth the Hodinkee tax and the Caliber 400 bump (seems like caliber 400 models add about $1300 to the price-using the Aquis as a guide). Going for a heavy nostalgia play for sure. The male model in the Hodinkee article looks like he walked off of the 70s era set of This Is Us. If you wanted a 6205 without the price tag this one would be pretty close in dimensions and esthetics. But $3800 bucks... Ouch. That is Black Bay territory. This will be a better offering after Oris brings out the normal 65 with the caliber 400.

Roughly speaking, for me, any number greater than the number of times my friends’ 3 year old has watched Peppa Pig, or their six year old can twirl while bouncing on a trampoline and singing the rainbow song, is too much to spend on a lovely but fairly routine dive watch. :D

 I get the whole "less is more" idea, but this is taking that whole idea to stratospheric heights....along with the price. [-(

Keep it quiet, but PP won’t be troubling the scorers anymore. She was a major contributor to last night‘s sausages.
