Bremont to open 3 new 'boutiques'...

Post by RichM »

... BUT to be run by Signet owner of Ernst Jones and Hill Samuel.

The locations are to be Birmingham Bullring, Cribbs Causeway in Bristol and Bluewater.

This has surprised me for a few reasons but mostly that it's Signet who are doing it.

Birmingham Bullring is also surprising given it's a 'high st' not luxury shopping experience. Selfridges is there but Bremont won't be in that store.

I'm a huge Bremont fan and don't feel comfortable with this.

Presumably it will be fully Bremont branded in a stand alone shop but it's actually Ernst Jones/Hill Samuel running it. The job ads are on the Signet website for every available store vacancy using the Bremont name.

What does everyone think?

Rich.

Good luck to them - they obviously think the money is there at a time when typical retail is exiting the high street.

Why?

Wouldn’t bother me. The watch is still the same. Unless the boutique model means that the usual discount available on Bremont at sale time is no longer available?

I don't own a Bremont, but surely this can only be a positive move?

They are a genuine British watch maker who employ skilled people in Britain, pay taxes etc. and if they are to grow as a company they need to well, sell more watches. I'm curious as to why this should be seen as a bad thing.

Interesting move. I'm not a Bremont owner but think this will be good. I'd definitely go to Bluewater for a browse.

I wonder how the watch market is now. CW discounting production models - I assume they're not selling as planned; Tribus 'we won't discount' offering a third off selected models, and now Bremont opening their own boutiques- perhaps this is their investment to mitigate a slow down.

I really like the idea of one coming to Bluewater.
Burrels in T/Wells sell some Bremont model but not a huge selection, so it will be nice to have a few more to try on.

Bremont have a few of their own boutiques already, don't they?

As to new ones opening in 'High Street' locations, as opposed to 'luxury shopping experience' areas, it seems like a shrewd move to me to try to appeal to a broader market demographic; befitting their tool watch vibe.

Personally though, with The Wing only a little over an hour away from home I've been thinking of booking one of their tours sometime in the next month or two. Anyone care to join me?

I think I was surprised by the move to 'high street' but I'm now sold that it's a good move and Birmingham is nearby so I'll be a regular visitor (just to window shop now though!)

I was discussing the Wing tours a month or so ago with someone local and he said they were all booked out for months.

I haven't looked any further into it so not sure if he was right.

Anyhow Guy if you are thinking of going there I'd be happy to join you, it's about 15mins from where I live.

EDIT - Just looked at their website - all tours are presently fully booked so you have to complete an on-line form to be informed of the future availability of dates.

I think it's a very smart move and, let's face it, they already boutiques and other outlets with various jewelers already.
Also, I agree with Guy's comment about appealing to a broader market demographic which, I would add, may also bring in passing trade on the High Street.

As far as a Wing Tour is concerned, if the opportunity arises then it's something definitely worth doing and I would highly recommend it.

A Tour has been requested for a "small group 5 - 10 pers(?) of Bremont Enthusiasts/Owners".

If anyone else is interested, may I suggest you contact me by PM to discuss arrangements etc.

Bremont currently only have a small number of UK boutiques, so 3 more would be fabulous. I don’t know if the OP’s concerns are because Signet is somehow less prestigious, but Bremont would have had all the assurances that they will represent the brand image faithfully.

Edit: +1 for the Tour, and I know @angusbon would be interested too.

I think this can only be viewed as a positive for Bremont. I don’t get what a ‘luxury shopping experience’ is supposed to be?? A shopping centre is a shopping centre and Bremont having shops (sorry, boutiques if you’re posh!) in 3 more locations seems good to me.

I’d definitely be interested in the tour however, due to how hectic work is at the moment I couldn’t commit until nearer the time.

Bremont sell their watches through Beaverbrooks online and in 13 stores across the country. Not only does my local Beaverbrooks store stock an extensive range of their watches but also an independent store, Jacobs, close by specialises in their LE. There are often great discounts to be had on current models, I picked up a new ALT1-WT with 60% off.

Edit: a shout for Jacobs, one of the first stores to stock Bremont watches. Well worth a visit. https://jacobsthejewellers.com/
