Different, interesting…
Taking inspiration from a picture I saw yesterday, I was reminded of a phrase used amongst the Brits; “Well, that’s different, interesting…” sometimes stated with a sarcastic tone, but much more often expressed with an apologetic reluctance, as if the speaker somehow feels guilty for not appreciating an object which doesn’t conform to norms or takes a risk in terms of design, form or function. Quintessentially English, this phrase.
At the same time, if only I had a £1 for every time I’ve heard a criticism for a product being too similar to another…. “that watch is just a sub-clone”, “that looks the same as all your other watches” . I’ve even seen the C7 Rapide Automatic being described as being similar to a Chopard Mille Migla, and the case resembling a Bremont Trip-Tick. Both praiseworthy put-downs in my view.
Anyhoo… I appreciate the usual. Would I buy these watches? Some yes, some no, some only if money were no object, some not even then. Like them or not, I respect the effort put into them; attention to detail is one of my pet likes, and its manifestation in a miniature feature on a watch is a joy to behold. Here are just a few of the wacky, nutty, hatstand, barking mad watches which have caught my eye in the last 12 months and made me look again. These are all actual production pieces (some of them LEs though). Let’s see your different, interesting … finds too.

That’s a magnificent collection, Wyatt. Not sure the ZWs are that bad, though, and a couple of the CyS are nice. The rest…
I have another prime candidate to join Club Bonkers, but I wouldn’t dare. I’d get too much stick.

Re: Different, interesting…
It’s a collection of something for sure, not mine though!
Post it, come on. The more “interesting” the better! Or PM it to me - you’ll be doing well if it’s more bonkers than the Christophe Claret Mamba, which also comes as an Orange Pantherophis with sapphires, diamonds & snakes constructed from pink gold. I prefer it, a steal at €100K.Amor Vincit Omnia wrote: ↑Tue Aug 17, 2021 4:51 pm I have another prime candidate to join Club Bonkers, but I wouldn’t dare. I’d get too much stick.

Re: Different, interesting…
I love different and interesting, and I love the examples so far, though I think I’d have to have a lot of money to buy something exquisite and bonkers that I might not wear very often. Along these lines a Richard Mille skull watch would do me fine, though the Marc Jacobs one is brilliant and much more within my price range.
watching you fail in your quest for a “one watch” has been great entertainment

Yes, that certainly counts, as do these hand painted dials from Ronnie Wood at £39 grand each. If these don’t appeal, there are 21 different variants left out of the 47 made.

A couple of people have previously commented on my Oris LE's recycled ocean plastic caseback. Well Oris have decided to release a 41.5 'Upcycle' model with a dial made from the same stuff
And this from ML
Then there's the J&Co Bugatti range of watches with it's 16 'functional' cylinders/pistons. Video here

Wow - they certainly put the My Dog Sighs dials in perspective, don't they?

^^^^ @StrappedUp - makes me wonder, Ryan, if CW are thinking of doing anything similar on the #tide front.
