Incoming (but not what I was expecting)

Post by stefs »

So as I have been clearly traumatised by not yet getting my elite I have numbed the pain with a newbie.

On thursday I got a call from the iwc AD saying they had just received the first of the new pilot chronograph 41 if I wanted it.
I hot footed it down thinking it was a done deal. Sadly much as I loved the look it just wore very chunky for me despite the numbers. 41x14.5 with a lug to lug of 50mm

I knew it was a no....pics

Having left the Ad I popped into the other watch shops in bluewater for a browse as you do and found another watch with similar dimensions that just fitted so much better.

Had a think and today thought what the heck...

Blue dial tick
Chronograph tick
Sensible size tick
Both bracelet and nice leather strap tick
Some would say Iconic

Should be easy to guess (not you ryan / graham)

The IWC AD I was in earlier to look at the same pilot chrono is also a Breitling AD. I cheekily asked if they’d polish and clean my wife’s rings which they were only too happy to do. I of course had an ulterior motive as it gave me chance to browse the Breitling collection while we waited.

They have some very nice watches, not all are to my taste and some of the bracelets looked to be fully polished which isn’t for me. Interested to see what you’ve chosen though.

Something may well have to go to balance the books but probably worth it. Very pleasedand very comfortable on the wrist. Just goes to show you need to try these things on rather than just work on numbers! It is only 0.1 mm thinner than the IWC but feels much easier to wear. The lug to lug of 48 probably helps as well.
Just need to enjoy it while my eyes can still read all the bezel slide rule numbers

The bracelet though very polished is excellent and very comfy though I imagine it will spend a lot of time on the blue leather which I managed to negotiate in the deal

Wow! Not what I was expecting, Paul, knowing that you tend to prefer smaller watches, but without doubt an iconic and superb watch. Congratulations. I really hope you enjoy it to the max.

^^^^ Simultaneously posted. I thought of the Navitimer but opted for the Colt.

Definitely a classic Paul.

Gorgeous acquisition and evocative shots.

Coincidently I have been researching Navitimers but it will have to wait before I even consider, so meanwhile I also consoled myself in a small way - you certainly did the better deal.... :)

Thanks Guys. Its nice to now have a good size option at 41. Will work for a lot of people where not everyone could get away with the tradional 43 &46mm.
Already used it to time the scallops and now its keeping tabs on the sea trout :D
