Nine-Day Wonder (well, ten really)
I’m doing a little experiment.
Some of you may recall the review I did on my MeisterSinger Metris last year.
As I said, the watch was a little retirement present to self and was principally intended for those lazy beach holidays that I love so much. Well the retirement didn’t quite happen (not completely at any rate) and the holidays certainly didn’t happen!
I enjoyed wearing this watch over the summer last year but became increasingly disenchanted with it during the autumn and winter. I will freely admit that I wasn’t in a very good place, and the inability to see time moving was contributing to what I think was a genuine depression. Actually, I now think that it was more a case of resentment that I couldn’t do the things I wanted to do, so took my feelings out on an inanimate object with which I was associating those activities.
Well, it’s feeling more like summer now, I have my second jab tomorrow and I’m really hoping that by the end of the summer or beginning of September I can get onto a Greek beach for a couple of weeks and do nothing.
So, we have a half term break and this morning I put the MeisterSinger on. I have been wearing it a lot more recently, but I thought to myself that this would be a good time, with some lovely weather forecast, to give it what I might term a holiday try out. I have locked all my other watches away and for the next 10 days (including today) I intend to wear just this one. I shall treat it exactly as I would on a holiday.
I also have my beautiful Ulysse Nardin, which I bore you all to tears with, because I can’t stop wearing it, photographing it and talking about it! The UN is intended to be the serious travel watch that I hope to wear for my research trips and other things that don’t involve beaches (such as Christmas in Cyprus!) The MS is very much the laid-back holiday watch, or at least that is the intention. I really don’t need GMT for Greece, fun as it is.

Glad your concious uncoupling has bought you back together. Nothing like seeing those isobars getting closer together and southern air drifting up from the Sahara. You'll be Bazouki dancing' before you know it, smashing plates with the MeisterSinger firmly in place.

You've locked the UN away too Steve?
Have a great nine days. It looks like the weather has turned nice just in time.

I love watch wearing experiments. Looking forward to your thoughts.
watching you fail in your quest for a “one watch” has been great entertainment

I have, Day 2 is beginning and so far I have not experienced any serious withdrawal symptoms.
I will update as and when, Lindsey.

Re: Nine-Day Wonder (well, ten really)
The Metris does like nice, bright and summery with the splash of orange on the strap.
It sounds like the perfect chance to re-connect with the watch, a couple of weeks of not working, hot sunny weather, no need to know anything more than "ish" time. That's great you are getting your 2nd vaccine today Steve and I hope you do get away on that Mediterranean break that is long overdue. Maybe you can look at some options over the next two weeks, even book something that is refundable or can be rearranged in the worst case scenario.

Re: Nine-Day Wonder (well, ten really)
Day Four and we are developing a nice easy symbiosis. I think this would work easily and well on a two week beach holiday, and I wouldn’t particularly miss the others for awhile.

You're changing straps almost daily Steve.
Do you think you would be able to settle on just one?

All part of the fun, Guy. Keep ‘em guessing. I still fancy a Tide strap for this one, though. I do like QR straps, as well.

Re: Nine-Day Wonder (well, ten really)
Day Five. Up early to take the car into Lowestoft for service. Found a nice little Italian café and had breakfast in the shady courtyard. Best café latte I’ve had for years (probably since the last time I was in Italy!) Spent an hour also walking on the seafront and tried to photograph the famous Triton statue. Difficult because the sun was right behind it.
Still enjoying the relative freedom of one watch, and being an automatic it needs no real interaction. As far as one can tell with these things, it’s pretty spot-on.
