SOTC - little soporsche
Before this gets moved by the mods, I didnt think it really met the actual SOTC thread criteria.
Sorting through the watch boxes this afternoon, working out the stayers and leavers. Struck me I haven't ever done a SOTC, well I'm afraid I still haven't. However my son, who's 8, disappeared whilst I was engaged in watch land and after some delving through drawers returned and proudly stated, here's mine.
In discussion, turns out he's more of a sports watch fan, coloured bezels and stripes or cool images really appeal. Anything with a racing theme is his real hot spot.
His favourites from my box(s) are the white dials with clear markers (easier to tell the time), numerals as opposed to blobs or bars are even better for this. That said, the C1000 Typhoon is "the most cool" followed by the ones with lots of buttons and dials. Hes not really into the Speedy Albino though as "sorry, it just doesn't look that good"
He is less keen on the vintage as "they look really old" and " don't really look that new or good".
He's not yet found his sweet spot size wise (he's 8 so a way to go yet) but preference is 19-32mm though that's pushing it, lug to lug is key to comfort for him. Apparently finding a strap that fits his tiny wrist is a challenge and he's tasked me with sourcing an online supplier (as I seem to be able to find any watch stuff on the Internet)
The informed opinion is the lego watch will probably "grow in money as its quite rare", its very light but the bracelet requires grown up assistance to fasten so "the design isn't very good for children". The others are "kids watches really and Ill give them to the charity shop when I get older".
You will notice below there's one outlier in the mini collection, its a bit big for him at present being 43mm, I learned today its officially his but he'll let me wear it when I want. Its a CW, big , shiny, a great blue colour, looks very posh and is his namesake who he learned about on a school trip to Greenwich Maritime museum.
I told him about the SOTC thread where people post pics of all their watches (what can I say, I'm an interesting dad). So he pinched my phone and presented it back with the following pic. His caveat is that its missing his favourite kids tikka watch and 2nd lego model because they're somewhere in his toy box and he can't find them..

Indeed Guy, purchased from Ian on the forum in 2016... still looks as good today as when I received it.

Really warms the heart, Stephen. Thanks so much for sharing.
I will have to make sure my 4 year old grandson is not alerted to the idea of a collection. One is enough for now my boy!
As Guy points out, your lad does indeed have fine taste.

watching you fail in your quest for a “one watch” has been great entertainment

Re: SOTC - little soporsche
Apparently they can put your name on a list if you buy at least 3 Lego creator packs and then wait a year or 2..

Sounds like he's already filled one watch box. He'll be needing another shortly.
