My BB58 Black "replacement watch" is on my wrist
And it's a Tudor Black Bay 58 Blue! For a while there, even I didn't see that one coming.
Regular forum-ites may remember, and I quote myself "it is an excellent watch but not MY excellent watch" referring to the BB58 Black on steel that I saw a few weeks ago.
Here's the thing: the Black refers rather well to the 7924 of 1958, and especially on the supplied bracelet was just too much "vintage style and feel" for me as I considered why I didn't take to it. And that is not what I was looking for.
The Blue however feels more modern, more crisp classic sports watch. And that IS what I was looking for.
Early this week the AD called me to say he had a Blue with the "soft touch" strap and asked if he should put it aside for me. I said yes. Glad I did.
This morning I went back to the City and the minute it appeared in the obligatory tray it was love at first sight. That's the one. Just freaking perfect, and in flagrant disregard for Downer's Rules pulled out the card. Totally chuffed.
Gratuitous stock pic attached but I will get someone to take a pic on-wrist asap since I am SO rubbish at them. Will post on NCWOTD soon as I can.

Nice to see a happy resolution to a fascinating story. What a beautiful shade of blue!

Thanks, Steve.
I am seriously getting goosebumps every time I look at it. The blue is different in different lights. Awesome!

Brilliant. I’ve loved your story of where your watch obsession has taken you. All the research in the world can’t explain that moment you find the one that’s right for you. Enjoy!!
watching you fail in your quest for a “one watch” has been great entertainment

When you know; you know.
Allied with your previous discovering threads, a great tale of watch buying.
Congratulations and enjoy.

Re: My BB58 Black "replacement watch" is on my wrist
Well that’s worked out well.
I must admit I had the chance to see them in the flesh this week there was actually a few in stock and on the blue leather it was really tasty and if I am honest probably my favourite of the 58 range. Although I havent seen the gold one yet.
I am now pondering on whether I could swap my black for the blue

Re: My BB58 Black "replacement watch" is on my wrist
Congratulations Chris, well you fooled us there! I thought you had decided against the 58 after visiting the Sydney Tudor AD but no, just a different version of 58.
Both the black and blue (and now new silver and gold) versions of this watch are fantastic in my eyes. After an AD tryout, I also went for the blue. I did stick to Downer's rules and go for the bracelet version but have now moved it onto a Martu blue alcantara strap that isn't dissimilar in colour and texture to the OEM strap you have got it on.
I hope you enjoy wearing it and look forward to seeing some photos of yours. This is mine.

You know Patrick, I had seen a pic of yours on the Martu strap in a Straps thread and it was in the back of my mind when Juno called me.

Didn't see that coming! Thanks for sharing the surprise conclusion Chris.
You came full circle in a way (sort of). I really enjoyed following the different chapters of your adventure...
Congratulations and I hope you enjoy in good health!

Thanks so much Ian, and to all for your kind comments. I got to a good place in the end.
Probably a good time to let @jtc and @nbg off the hook, being "blamed" for all of this and say now thanks for the encouragement!

Congratulations, it's a real beauty. When done properly, a blue dial can take on some wonderfully different hues in different light. Enjoy the honeymoon.
Time and money? I’ve spent most of mine on booze and women. The rest I just wasted…

Yep! Beautiful piece is the blue, I'd have gone for one myself but the golden tones and red triangle spoke to me in other ways!

Congratulations Chris on the incoming new Tudor! As Guy noted, when you know, you know!
Looks fantastic on that strap IMO
