Good enough for Elliot Brown to use as their standard movement for the Canford and for CW to use in several of their staple quartz watches i.e. C6 Kingfisher

Details in the movement section of the CWArchive.

Thanks Guy, I take it that it is a reasonable movement to go into a £500 watch then

I'll put that in the affirmative.

Put it this way; have you ever read an "I've got trouble with my movement" topic on this forum for the 715?

I can't recall one.

I have a victorinox with that movement, plus, I used that one in my home build watches (5) and every one runs at about +0.1 secs per day.

It will have 1664 at the 4 o'clock position (year Royal was born)
Corps badge at 6 o'clock, and on case back.
second hand will have corps colours and tipped with commando green, looks a decent watch. I would have preferred an auto, but the quartz keeps the price down
elliot brown watch. Also "Commando" below the 6 jpg
200m depth rating (about as much as a bootneck can hold his breath :) (very much like that sub mariner watch you have....but you really have to be mad to go in a sub)
What do ya think?

I bet the submariners loved those skull & crossbones...one in the eye for the navy! Stupidly I had always thought Elliot Brown were an American brand, but it seems they are based in Dorset, of all places.

@jimbo - why are you procrastinating over the movement (which is decent and solid)?

That Holton is downright, absolutely stunning.

Remember the Holton was designed in conjunction with the SBS and was the first watch in 10 years to receive MOD accreditation (NATO Stock Number) and become an 'issue' watch.

The design details are emotive and discreet. As the gents at Elliot Brown say 'if you know, you know'.

I only have one problem with it, which is that I have absolutely no legitimate connection to any serving or ex Royal Marine that would qualify or allow me to buy one.

They only made 50 or 60 with the Skull n Crossbones on them. We had a choice between a blue dial with Dolphins on it or the black one with The Skull and Crossbones, over 400 of the Dolphins were made.

The movement is fine. I have two watches with it, one of which is here with me. This one has been a daily wear for most of the last 11 years, (not babied and not shock protected) only had battery changes (at CW) several times in that time rather than a service and three days ago the EOL indicator started for the low battery. It is still averaging +0.4s per day.
My one and only gripe with it is that it doesn't hit the minute markers on the second hand going around, but you'd have to double the watch cost to perhaps get that...
The movement is good, that watch looks great. Go for it! :)

I've got my name on the list for one Jimbo. Just got the email today with pricing confirmation. I'd considered the CW Lympstone when it first came out, but while a nice looking watch it didn't speak to me as something memorializing my time as a Royal. This Elliot Brown on the other hand has some nice touches and is limited to current and former Bootnecks, which makes it a little more special IMHO. I'm not sure what to have engraved on the back yet, maybe just my number.

Guy, I'm trying to decide between the rubber strap and the bracelet. As a happy owner of Elliot Brown watches, how good are their bracelets?

They are excellent.

Details from Elliot Brown's website;-

"22mm brushed bracelet with solid links that taper to 20mm at the buckle

Solid 316L stainless steel with brushed finish

Machined endplates fit perfectly up to watch case

Solid screw in link pins for maximum strength and easy adjustment

Heavy duty deployant buckle with two-stage slide-out locking extension section for use over a wetsuit

Four pairs of holes in the buckle for fine tuning the fit; no half-links needed

Engraved shield logo with luminous infill"

What these details and the website image don't say or show is the oyster links being oval, rather than the typical chamfered rectangular. Very tactile.

If you are dextrous enough the two-stage slide-out locking extension can be operated without taking the watch off your wrist.

Overall its chunkier and a tad heavier than a CW bracelet which befits the ethos of EB's watches (but not as chunky as their earlier bracelets that were a straight profile and with rectangular links).

Bottom line? Apply Downer's rule to buy on bracelet, but get a rubber strap as well as they are equally excellent (I'm not a huge fan of rubber straps but I will happily wear an EB one). Olive green preferably, but it would be cool if EB did a 'Commando' Green to match.

Guy
