This one, I think, could cover a lot of bases. Not however, suited for doing battle with a sword weilding cat.

Re: The "what watch are you day dreaming about now" thread
I have spoken previously about the prospects of a proper gold watch as a retirement gift to myself. Too bad that goal is still a few years off. On the other hand, it is from my birth year of 1959, and these don't come along all that often, and, and, I could leave it locked away until that day arrives, and I really like it, and oh what am I thinking.

Oh my God, I'm developing an unhealthy obsession with this watch, too. I say too because I'm pretty sure you have Chris. I love the way the fixed bezel and strap combine, and I have no issue with the thread of the screws pointing in different directions, I actually like it. Please, please, please, no more photos, I can't take it.

^^^^Like you Chris, the video put me over the top as well. I thought the mid size was the perfect size, and so well proportioned. A watch of that caliber does not need to shout LOOK AT ME!!!

Re: The "what watch are you day dreaming about now" thread
They have one of these at Cartier in Sydney and Saturday afternoon I am going to try it on the wrist, has to be done.
I may have to sit down whilst I do this: the risk of going weak at the knees, you know
The 2018 update with the bezel that flows into the bracelet is just genius. That a watch with such history can be combined with the level of sophistication that the bracelet arrangement exhibits just blows my mind. And like you Des, I think the screw heads pointing in different directions is actually better - it makes it somehow "real" rather than jewellery.
Unhealthy obsession? You bet. I've been fairly hit with a sledgehammer since it kind of "found me".
The hard part is going to be the time it takes to put SO MANY pennies together, but maybe that is for the best.

Re: The "what watch are you day dreaming about now" thread
Many years before I was into watches of any kind I was offered a steel/gold Cartier by my then girlfriend who worked for them. It was special deal on one of the company's anniversaries at 80% discount as a gift to staff and too good to refuse (can't even remember if a Santos or Panthere but it was a ltd edition). I found it too small and dressy and never wore it, a few years later I sold it for a then significant amount to me but retrospectively a great deal for the purchaser
Over the last few years I find myself keep looking at the steel Santos XL and really admiring them, strange how your taste develops with time. They keep niggling at me and your pics/OP on this have not helped one bit
Anyway, lovely watch and can completely see why it would get under your skin.... definitely save for the Cartier rather than the GS.

My passion for beautiful timepieces is obvious.
But the real fascination lies with the movement. This is a modern take on one of the first self winding automaticsTime and money? I’ve spent most of mine on booze and women. The rest I just wasted…

The search for the "proper" gold watch continues. Hesitation may have cost me this opportunity.
