2015 FLE - Poll for Caseback Text

Post by downer »

We will have a series of polls to decide the final specification details for the 2015 C5S FLE.

This poll is to decide the wording to be used on the Caseback

Please vote for your preference. The winning selection will be used on all watches.

Poll will run for 7 days, and you may change your vote.

Hi Richard,

Do we know if there will be a cost implications if we go for some of these options?

Also will there be a poll for the font/ italics etc later on?

The caseback engraving should be at little or no additional cost.

We can have a discussion about the merits (or otherwise) of the italic/font/script, and if necessary, we could have a poll.

My own feelings:
  • The C5 Slimline aesthetic is all about classic modernity and simple, straightforward design
  • The FLE additions (revised hands etc) simply underline and enhance this theme
  • Therefore, we should keep it simple, and stick to the standard block capital script

Right, I think, because the visual aspect of the movement as seen through the case back is quite utilitarian, so simplicity is appropriate.

A decorated movement would perhaps have lent itself to a more florid style, but that will have to remain a hypothetical consideration for this piece at least.

Yep, I'd also agree with all of that; stick to the minimalist aesthetic of the whole piece.

I'd even suggest going a step further and say that if we were considering modifying the font at all then we should stay with simple block capitals but think about using a 'narrow' font to reflect the tall narrow characters of the main indices on the dial.

it may also be worth considering the amount of space on the case back - which is a display back - therefore limited in space... that first option might look rather 'full' with the serial number as well

I know it's opposite to all the thoughts above, I would rather like to see the case back to be engraved in script style similar to the C9 Jumping Hour

I don't think this would look too out of place at all

Not a fan of the italics personally. Nice bold lettering for the case back methinks.

In terms of wording, this poll looks like a one horse race
