2015 FLE - Poll for Dial Text

Post by downer »

We will have a series of polls to decide the final specification details for the 2015 C5S FLE.

This poll is to decide the wording to be printed on the dial.

Please vote for your preference. The winning selection will be printed on all watches.

Poll will run for 7 days, and you may change your vote.

Here are the photos for anyone needing a visual. I tried to match the font, size, and location of the white logo on the Blue Slimline so I think it's pretty accurate to how it will look. They all look pretty good though "Twenty Fifteen" and "MMXV" are my favorites because of how different they are to what you see out there.

Thanks for the pictures - very helpful. :)

I wonder if you have the text slightly low on the dial? When you look at the C5S image on the CW website, the bottom of the text is almost aligned with the dots at 4 and 8, whereas your pictures show it slightly lower....

Having said that, I think they are perfectly adequate for making a comparison between the options.

I think you're right. I was judging off these two real-life photos.

I tried to match the same distance at the six number but since the VI on the FLE is not as tall as the I used on the original, the logo is a little lower on the dial. Oh, well, if I get time I'll replace them with new ones tomorrow.

Why would one want Limited Edition on the dial and the back? Sounds like overkill to me. I think consideration needs to be given to that.

Early days, I know, but two seem to be leading the way. I favour MMXV unsurprisingly, as a fan of Roman numerals, but also for the following reasons:

1. The runaway leader at the moment for the case back engraving is "Forum Limited Edition 2015"..."Limited Edition" merely replicates (some of) this information on the front. Essentially, not very imaginative. What does it tell you? The same as every other watch that has said "limited edition" on the front...err, it's a limited edition.

2. MMXV...intriguing...what could it mean? Is it some kind of secret society or code? Or a date, maybe? If so, why? Let's take a look on the back...Ah, got it! Clever.

We can do better than the banal and obvious.

PS - just read Theaub's comment - he beat me to it!

AVO

Whilst I do understand what you are saying. I'm not sure that I would encounter that particular scenario.

My friends 'accept' that I like watches but don't understand it.

If I mention that I belong to a watch Forum they look at me in shock, amazement or horror.

To most people it will be just a watch and the words Forum Limited Edition might send them into a paroxysm of fear that people like us actually exist.

In some respects the aspect of the serial number being xx/xxx on the caseback is perhaps enough to signify it being an LE. Isn't it?

Following AVO's train of thought about repetition; is therefore MMXV on the dial and 2015 on the caseback repetition?

I see your point, Guy. Personally I would have less of an issue with that, as the date is presented in two different formats.

For what it's worth from a newcomer (and C5SLM-20 voter) I agree that Limited Edition on both the front and the back is a bit redundant. The date in roman numerals on the front and "Limited Edition" on the back convey all the information you need, with no excess. That kind of simplicity and understatement fit best with the design of the watch, IMO.

Whatever happens, happy to be part of the process.

I'm not going to vote because I won't be buying, but I'll put my two cents in.

I think MMXV or twenty fifteen are more interesting and subtle than limited edition. I'm not a fan of 2x4 to the head bluntness. Either of those could be seen as a name for the watch as well as a descriptor while LE is just a descriptor.
the "g" is for Greg...

One factor that has yet, as far as I know, to be mentioned is that if we have MMXV it blends with the XII and VI of the dial indices.
