The C9 5-Day has a museum grade crystal but still suffers from the normal distortion inherent in CWL domed crystals. So museum grade won't help with distortion.

The question is whether the C5 Slimline has a flat or domed crystal. I can't remember and the CWL website isn't clear.
My blue C5 Slimline has a flat crystal and has little or no distortion to my eye. Again, IMHO a museum grade crystal will offer little if any improvement while adding to the cost significantly.

This may be one of the nicest dress watches around at that price point. Perhaps the normal C5 crystal is good but no doubt you get something better for the price. I don't own any mechanical dress watches so price is moot for me as I plan for this to be my only dress watch should I get it. All I know is when I look at my C3 and C5, then look at my Makaira, I realize every watch on earth should have a Museum crystal because it's perfect.

Much obliged Sir!

We shall have to agree to disagree I am afraid.

I can only say (again IMHO) that as a 'flagship' limited edition model with the gold indeces, the history behind it etc, this watch deserves the very best. Anything else would be a compromise.

I feel that we are privileged enough to have a say in the construction of this watch and I would hate to think that we had missed an opportunity here.

To understand whether or not this is a significant increase in the purchase price, an idea as to what the price "as it stands " is needed.

One does not simply upgrade to Museum crystal without knowing where Standard crystal stands.

If we do upgrade to the museum grade, should we make it slightly domed instead of flat?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

That would introduce all the distortion problems that other CWL watches have and would be a backward step in my view.

This in spades!

But I thought that the museum grade crystal dealt better with distortions than the standard sapphire?

No. Museum grade is about handling reflections better. It still distorts if domed, as per the C9 5-Day.
