Re: gaf1958 - January 2021
Gary a fantastic piece of work in putting all of that together!
It is easy enough to take a pic of them all at once in a watch box - or in your case many watch boxes. But lovely pics and a narrative for each is dedication to the cause.
I do sometimes wonder why you buy watches that you probably know won’t stick, but I guess for some of the brands it is really the only way to really find out if they really hit the spot. Interesting looking again at some of those I hadn’t really heard of, until they featured in one of your NC of the day posts. I really like the look of the Direnzo models (enough to have a quick look at their website )
The Omega box is the highlight for me - what a selection!
Better I reckon, than before your previous house sell off.
My other two observations:
- whilst I didn’t do a full count (I couldn’t get some of the pics to load) it looks to me that you may have as many non traditional case shape watches, as the more usual style.
- being an Island nation making it easy to control COVID-19 you say? Well where do I start!
Neil

Re: gaf1958 - January 2021
I've made some compilation images of the ones that were sold last year. As fortune would have it, they worked out to an exact number for 11 images each with 8 watches - 88 watches. I'm sure there's a watch sales company in SE Asia that I'm in breach of copyright for there! (I just checked, and it's watches88). I don't think I've managed to get any duplicates there...

The honours go to you for being the first to mention that; I was wondering how long it would take before someone picked up on it!

Re: gaf1958 - January 2021
Strewth. More watches than most AD's.
That's a lot of work, right there in this post.
I'd keep the Omega box and get rid of the rest. Job done.

I think there’s some merit in the top row of the second box as well Richarddowner wrote:I'd keep the Omega box and get rid of the rest. Job done.
As to the amount of work, I think that’s why it’s been three years since my last SOTC

Re: gaf1958 - January 2021
I almost have no words Gary.
Astonishing, amazing (ok so I have a couple left)
The speedie collection alone is just staggering and I love them
Thanks so much for taking the time to put this together.
Mindblowing stuff (in a good way)
ps . Some pretty brilliant watches in the departed list as well!

Amazing! Unbelievable! Fantastical! ...in scope and breadth. I don’t know that I have any other words to use.
I applaud you, sir!

I couldn’t believe what I was seeing... and then you followed it up with the sold collection!
An amazing collection, fantastically presented with superb photos. I think you’ve just won the SOTC world championships

Holy moly
I knew that you had a substantial collection but, oh my word, that's absolutely amazing
Note: Seeing that C90 Beckett's brings back memories, I had the black and white dial versions and regret having sold them.

Amazing. I've been in a shops that are less well stocked than that! What I'd love to hear about is some of the practicalities of owning a substantial collection - servicing, wearing in rotation etc.
Thanks for sharing.

Re: gaf1958 - January 2021
Certainly I wasn't expecting you to do anything about my comment about the sold watches so once again thanks for spending your time putting the photos together.gaf1958 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 19, 2021 10:22 am Thanks for all the comments guys. It was a bit of a mammoth effort to produce it; I would probably have liked to include a bit more info on each watch, but with the many hours (over several days) of putting it together, it’s a bit surprising that I managed to write more than just the brand and model for the last 20 or so watches...
It may be possible if I do a few grid images of the watches?.. I’ll look into it.Mikkei4 wrote:It's a shame that the sold watches aren't able to be shown in a few photos as I'd have loved to have seen those as well but as there were about 60-70 that's obviously not possible.
Yet again some fantastic watches there that look superb and that I'd be quite happy to own.

Re: gaf1958 - January 2021
I’m curious about that, too. With a collection that big, how do you even begin to decide what to wear any given day?exHowfener wrote: ↑Tue Jan 19, 2021 3:38 pm ...What I'd love to hear about is some of the practicalities of owning a substantial collection - servicing, wearing in rotation etc.
