Girard Perregaux giromatic

Post by Mart51 »

I don't normally post here, but would appreciate some advice. My sisters mother-in-law passed away before Christmas and in the process of sorting out the belongings came across this Girard Perregaux giromatic. She would like to know if its worth anything and whether she should have is serviced / restored. We think its from the mid 60's and was a long service / retirement present.

Hi

The 1957 Gyromatic was one of the first elegant autos and GP was/is a first class brand. As a very crude ballpark, without knowing a lot more about your particular model, in 18k, cleaned up/restored it could be worth as much £1500-2000. But they are not uncommon (GP made a lot of versions) so for a decent price it needs to be in good condition.

Hope this helps.

Good watches, very good brand. I would be tempted to say have it serviced but don’t have the dial restored because that’s original and the foxing and Patina are quite attractive. But you should get it checked out by a watchmaker. After all, all we have to go on here is one photo.

Thanks for the quick replies. I'll pass on the info to my sister and see what she wants to do.
