I hope everyone is well.
I've been meaning to write about my Grand Seiko 4520-8000 for while.
I hope you find it interesting.
The Grand Seiko 4520-8000
It's a manual-wind, high-beat movement, which beats 10 times per second, creating a lovely smooth sweeping motion, which is dangerous as you end up wanting to look at it all the time:
On a date-
"Am I boring you?"
"No, not at a all. I was just looking at the lovely smooth sweeping motion of my watch."
On the road-
"Is looking at one's watch an acceptable excuse for drifting slightly over the speed limit, officer?"
"No."
and so on..
About the line
The Grand Seiko 45 line was released in 1968, with this one dating back to September of 1968.
The GS 45 came in just three calibers; one with a date complication, one without and a 'very Finely Adjusted (VFA)'
version.
Size
The watch measures 38mm in diameter (including the crown), 42mm from lug tip to lug tip and it has a lug-to-lug width of 18mm.
The watch is 8mm in height.
Due to its low profile, it wears very well on the wrist and is less likely to pick up nicks and scratches.
The Back
You can find the serial number under the gold medallion on the back of the watch.
For those of you who don't know, the first and second numbers on the left show when the watch was produced.
The first number is the year and the second number is the month.
In this case, the watch was produced in September 1968.
The case, which came in steel and cap gold, has beautifully well-defined edges and corners.
Back in the day, the case would have had a mirror finish creating no distortion of light.
Movement
As mentioned above, the GS 4520-8000 is a manual wind, high beat movement with 25 jewels.
Personally, I love having to wind the watch to give it the energy to tell me the time during the day.

Very nice. I particularly like the angular, yet elegant, low profile case.
Seiko really were ahead of the game with these movements, given how long ago this was relatively speaking.
