Vintage Tag Quartz Service

Post by MarkingTime »

Hi all,

Does anyone have a ballpark figure as to what it should cost to replace the movement in a late 80's TAG 2000?

It has an ETA 955.112 (I think).

I know the movement cost is around £20, but obviously time will need to be factored in.

Thanks in advance.

Forget the movement cost unless going to an independent watchmaker. An AD will likely charge you for a complete overhaul.

Can't help on the price as I am a bit out of touch with current pricing, but I would guess an AD would charge about $200.00.

Well, it's a vintage watch and not under warranty, a competent independent watch repairer would be fine.

I figured on £80 or so. I don't know if this is close to the mark or off by a country mile.

I have an early TAG Formula 1, A few months back I sourced a replacement movement on ebay for about £20 then had a local watch repairer install it for £40, which took him half an hour. I suspect that if I’d let him provide the movement it would still have cost £40, but at least I know it has the correct unit fitted.
