Vintage watch of the day (30 years+)

Post by gaf1958 »

An outing for my 1960-something Eterna Centenaire today. It’s fitted with a CW Cordovan Bader strap.

Whoah, that is something rare. A repeater hunter/savonette movement presumably in a custom case?

Yes, the change over was said to be done in the 1930s, but I don't really know. Great size at 39mm.

This was the watch that started it all, my father's Datejust. He told me it cost his entire second lieutenant's paycheck for the month and he had to borrow a few dollars from a friend to buy it.

A real stunner! And the perfect size. I have been tempted by these marriage watches before, but they are always way too big. And a repeater as well. Very cool!
Time and money? I’ve spent most of mine on booze and women. The rest I just wasted…

I know I'm cheating here a bit, but what the heck my Pinion R-1969 (R for revival) is half a vintage watch by having a NOS hand wound Valjoux 7734 movement with Glucydur balance, 17 jewels and a delightfully restful 18,000 A/n.

The movement was made in 1969 (50+ years ago) but never assembled or put into a watch.

OK, the rest of the watch is contemporary but hey ho, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. :D :D
