1960's Seiko Skyliner

Post by Father Goose »

Grabbed this for a steal last year. I took a little risk and used alcohol to remove the failing dial marks and the result is a much simpler dial. I know some probably spat out their coffee reading that, but hey, it was a fun little experiment on a cheap watch. It may oxidize over time, but so far it's been fine.

I am guessing there were lume dots at the end of the batons around the dial? Looks good with them removed. Next project stop - re-lume!

Actually, no lume on this one. The indices have what looks like thin lacquer bar inserts. Just the painted text and seconds markers were removed.

I understand now. Definitely cleaned it up without any text present. It reminds me a lot of the Presages that only have Automatic printed above the 6. Simple and clean is not a bad thing!

That's nice.

If you hadn't said you've removed the minutes markers, I'd never have known and if you get a bit of oxidation in the future, it will simply add to the vintage charm.
