2013 FLEC progress report #1
2013 FLEC Progress Report #1
On Aug 7, 2012 the members of the 2013 Forum Limited Edition Commission (FLEC) began open discussions regarding the parameters required to develop a design for the new 2013 FLE.
Many great ideas were discussed and, as you now know, it came down to 4 primary requirements that were needed before moving into the design phase. They are as follows.
That 4 polls on the open forum that would run consecutively for 4 days each to determine.....
1. What style of watch do you want (dress, diver, sports, marine, aviator)?
2. What should be the approximate target price?
3. Which movement should we choose?
4. Which existing case should we choose?
As I write this we are into our third poll for movement type.
We have also discussed and arrived at a process schedule that has been added to the original FLEC announcement as an addendum.
This schedule has been reviewed and approved by Christopher Ward.
We have progressed by discussing the next poll while one is running to maximize our efficiency. The FLEC is currently working on the case poll. We have also begun with some preliminary ideas, as to design, to get the thought process moving.
We expect to complete the polling process on schedule.
We shall keep you advised as to further developments.
Please continue to give the 2013 FLEC your support. They are working very hard.

I know that there were some concerns about transparency with this process, and I think you all have done a wonderful job in allaying those fears so far. Keep up the great start. This feels to be a wonderful FLE already.

It all seems to be running very smoothly from a forum member point of view. It would be interesting to know how the FLEC members feel things are progressing compared to previous years.

The proper arguments discussions really get into full swing when we get to trying to finalise the actual design.
However, last years committee still have their CW issued flak jackets hanging in the wardrobe. The new members are being used as cannon fodder this year (but don't tell them.......)
If you can read this you are too close to your computer screen....

Speaking only for myself...I.I.D wrote:It all seems to be running very smoothly from a forum member point of view. It would be interesting to know how the FLEC members feel things are progressing compared to previous years.
This is the easy part. The real pressure comes during the design phase as our time is really quite limited. Fortunately we have several talented members to help spread the workload.
I think the experinece of the prior committee process has helped quite a bit so far, at least for me, as we have been able to get off to a quicker start. I think the progress we have made so far is quite impressive.

I disagree. I think it's going quite smoothly.Drmarkf wrote: It feels like a PRINCE2 project!
As a newcomer this is my first experience of anything like this and I have to say I'm very much enjoying the process. Hope the rest of the process goes smoothly for the committee.
Good luck and keep up the good work.

Re: 2013 FLEC progress report #1
The choices are being whittled down with each successive poll though. After poll number 4 we should have a reasonable idea which direction the project is heading.
We already know it's going to be a sub £450 sports watch. Within a couple of days we'll know the movement type and shortly thereafter the case.
I think the polls have done a good job of simplifying what could have been a nightmare job of making a choice.
