2012 FLE Elimination discussion

Post by Kip »

As of today June 20, I count 27 different designs, not counting an idea that 3 others downer did in an older thread be thrown in the mix.

Kudos to Richard for working overtime here and to all for the ideas so far.

All we do now is narrow it down to 1.

I am open to suggestions, but here is what I am thinking.

1. First is to let the ideas flow through Saturday (another week if the majority wants).
2. Then have an elimination vote for 3-5 days to reduce the possibles to say 10 and ties
3. Then have a round 2 to further reduce to say 5 or 3 (best I think)
4. Tweak the finalists and then submit to CWL and have a final vote for submission upon reception of final drawings
5. Each member would get a quantity of votes based on how many we are reducing to.

If we go the maximum times I am suggesting that would bring us to about July 16, allowing for delays etc. We then would be at the mercy of CWL to return the drawings to us for a final vote. CWl would need a minimun of 1 week to turnaround leaving us 1 week for corrections/refinements and then a vote. That is cutting it close.

Post your thoughts here regarding the process. Only the deadline of July 31 is carved in stone.

That sounds good kip, though we could have 100 designs to consider by Saturday.

Show CW all 30+ designs now so it could be narrowed down to 6 or 8 then we all have 1 week to vote. 2 week turnaround from now. and the top 3 go back to CW for chris to choose the 1st place.

2nd and 3rd could be in next years range.

3 votes each.

The problem is, it is not up to Chris to choose our FLE. That is our honor. He will only veto something that is not doable for technical or financial reasons.

Speaking as someone who is outside the process on the grounds of my stated dislike of the hands,i would say that you have plenty of 'designs' to go forward. You could leave it open for a while but all you will get is more mix&match of the colours as people say "let's try purple with orange" etc etc Let's be honest, nobody is designing anything...its just who likes what colour the most.
If i were you i would close it soon and get votes rolling otherwise you will end up with a very large amount of options which will spread votes thinly.
If you can read this you are too close to your computer screen....

Village speaks wisely. Methinks the truly crowd pleasing color combos have already been suggested.

I agree with village's impartial suggestion as well.

Let's get on with the General Election whilst we have the momentum. I need to get out on the Campaign Trail.

I assume there are no rules in exposing and trashing other ideas?

Vote for 'the scooter', it's a lovely looking watch: all the other ideas are just a load of tosh'.

Catchy little slogan, don't you think?

I agree as well. And to shave off some time, I'm thinking 3 days is probably plenty of time for each of the elimination rounds.

Thanks Kip,

Following your point order, here is a suggestion.

1. First is to let the ideas flow to Wednesday.
2. Then have an elimination vote for 3 days to reduce the possibles to say 10 and ties- taking us up to Saturday.
3. Then have a round 2 to further reduce to say 5 or 3- taking us up to Wednesday next week.
4. Tweak the finalists and then submit to CWL at the end of next week- 1st July.

If CWL take a week to turn around the drawings, we could be voting on the final drawings during week commencing 11th July, suggested ending for voting 15th July, winner announced 18th July, some two weeks ahead of schedule.

Tight timings but we are all very dedicated aren't we? 8)

Actually I have never voted in my life. As far as I can see they're ALL in it for themselves.

But let's not get political on a happy thread.
