Barton has just introduced tropic straps w/ quick release

Post by jkbarnes »

I just got an email from Barton introducing tropic straps in a variety of colors with quick release pins. I know there’s some love for Barton here on the forum (I love mine!), so I thought I’d pass the info along.

They’re offering 15% off with the code TROPIC15.

Just got the email too.

I LOVE that these (in addition to their elite silicone) come with 2 lengths. The shorter is perfect for my small wrist.

A note though from their website about the material these are made of, called TPU:
“NOTE: TPU is a much thicker and sturdier material than silicone or rubber. While it will soften slightly over time, please be aware that this strap is designed to endure the harshest of elements and has a firm fit.”

Maybe I’ll wait for someone here to get one and give a review. Or maybe I’ll be the guinea pig?

Has anyone tried the Barton Tropic strap yet. I've seen mixed mixed reviews about its comfort. Comparisons to the CW Hybrid v1/v2 would be helpful.

Thanks,

Leon

I'd be interested to know peoples thoughts on these.
I have the Zuludiver tropic straps which are great albeit £10 more expensive and a little bit long at 130/80mm.

Alright so here’s my initial view:

They are very stiff. Somewhere between the V1 and V2 hybrid from CW. Closer to the V1 hybrid. Still, I’ve had it on for about an hour and it does feel more comfortable than the V1 hybrid does.

Pros:
- Comes with 2 lengths. Smaller one is perfect for my 6” wrist, whereas most straps I am wearing on the last holes, some are still too long on the last hole (CW tropic being one). Per Barton, fits wrists 5” to 8” (70mm/105mm &125mm). Can also order long length, 85mm/125mm & 141mm, or up to 9” wrist.
- Quick release
- The end keeper is slotted, so the end keeper never lets the end of the strap loose.
- Appears very durable, feels as if it can take a beating and will last a while.
- $29 isn’t bad

Cons:
- Very stiff out of the box
- Fairly thick
- Sizing holes are 7.5mm apart, compared to about 5.8mm for CW straps

Again, I’ve only been wearing it for about an hour. It does feel like it’s giving a little, more so than the V1 hybrid from CW ever really gave.

Here are some pics, with comparisons to both V1 and V2 CW hybrids, and CW tropic.

That’s about as thorough as it gets!

The blue looks great with the C65 SC.

Thanks! It’s a nice medium dark blue that can go with a lot. I also picked up a 20mm to wear with my sapphire (just put a pic in the CWOTD thread).

One thing I failed to mention is that the Barton tropic has a curve built into it, which helps it curve around the wrist. CWs V1 hybrid is straight, which makes it wear noticeably more uncomfortable. I know when I’m wearing the V1 hybrid, but the Barton tropic essentially disappears on the wrist unless worn too tight.

I’ll report back after a while on longevity and how it breaks in.

I find the CW Hybrid v1 to be comfortable, so I'm assuming I would not have a problem with the Barton Tropic strap. I'll have to wait until our budget recovers from our latest vacation to try one; the credit cards are locked in a virtual safe at the moment.

Yesterday I ordered myself a couple of Barton straps using a promo code BOGO, buy one and get the other free. I think it’s still valid.

After wearing a Barton Tropic for 3 days and a CW Hybrid v1 this evening, IMO the Hybrid is more comfortable that the TPU Tropic. However, the Barton Tropic is more the the hybid strap that came with my Citizen Tough.
