Fin watch straps to the rescue

Post by strapline »

I have been looking for a suitable alternative strap for my Elliot Brown Tyneham for some time, but the unusual case shape (slab sides and deep lugs) had made this a bit of a challenge. I had it on an integral Elliot brown rubber strap, which was totally fit for purpose but, having tried a couple of different straps, I couldn't get a look that I liked. The Tyneham is quite deep, too, this is a result of a case hardened bezel which offers the crystal considerable protection.

Ralph @ time_lizard recently put up a post for his Fortis Marinemaster B42, along with a new bull leather Finwatchstrap he had specifically bought for it. I was really taken by the look of the strap and thought that style would work really well with my Tyneham. I went on to the finwatchstraps.com site and ordered one immediately.

The strap arrived yesterday and I love it, I think it compliments the watch brilliantly. The leather is superb; super-comfy (despite its 4mm thickness) straight out of the jiffy bag. It's clearly handcrafted with a lovely finish. The smell of the leather reminds me of old motorcycle jackets - think Marlon Brando in 'The Wild One'. I chose not to have a taper to the strap, though that is an option. I selected the red stitching which marries well with the red tip of both the seconds hand and PR indicator.

So, thanks Ralph if you get round to reading this. I'm pretty sure I'll be visiting finwatchstraps again.

That works really well Des, although I would have erred towards getting the strap tapered.

I forgot to mention... They are not the cheapest straps doing the rounds, but the quality is very apparent on close inspection. The 4mm thick bull leather range will work particularly well with chunkier, more tool-like watches.

Absolutely spot on in style, colourway and thickness
...and I agree that thicker straps work particularly well with chunkier case designs

I think that strap looks very good. The red stitching picks out the red details on the watch very well.

Generally speaking I find CW cordovan straps are always worth considering. I am sure they would look great with your watch. Although certainly not inexpensive they will look pristine for years. They can only be used with the omega style bader clasp, as the leather strap doesn't have a cut-out for a tang.

Well...three weeks ago I threatened that I might buy another strap from Finwatchstraps, and I did. I was so taken by the quality of their products. I found a really lovely waxed Italian leather (Badalassi) in a striking petrol blue/aquamarine type colourway. This time it's a little thinner, 2-2.5mm, but the colour perfectly matches the indices and numerals on this EB Canford. With the straps coming from Helsinki the turnaround is pretty quick. The leathers used by this company are superb; not only do I find myself gazing at my wrist but now smelling it too. A worrying development.

^^^^ I'd not thought of that style of strap for a Canford, Des, but must say it looks great.

Thanks Guy, nether had I. Really changes the feel of the watch; a bit more dressy, almost, over utilitarian.

Thanks for directing me to them Ralph. I feel that I have two watches now that have been totally transformed by a strap change. The leathers they use are superb.
