A vintage bracelet I’ve never seen before

Post by jkbarnes »

I came across this yesterday and thought it might be of interest for the Speedy fans on here. I just wish the article included better images of the bracelet!

Interesting article, Andrew. Thanks for sharing. Though I'm not a mesh fan myself.

I had always assumed that astronauts on mission wore their Speedies on those long velcro straps you see on Apollo 13 and that classic shot of Buzz in the Columbia capsule.

I'm not sure where they wore their Speedos, to be honest. Neptune?

Haha! I missed that....stupid autocorrect. I’ll need to fix that.

Well I don't think I would fancy that one, but it prompted me to try a mesh strap on my speedos, which came on leather. After a couple of tries I've settled on a black mesh.

Back to Speedys instead of Speedos, I’ve never been a fan of Forstner bracelets (although they may be steel, I nonetheless think of them more as straps). I know that at least one Speedy owner on the forum has one, but I have them mentally filed under the same category as Cyclops lenses - things that people inexplicably like that I really don’t.

Now my dear old Mum always drilled into me “if you can’t find something nice to say, say nothing”. A Speedy on a Forstner is still a nice watch, so I can say that; but an article on Forstners makes it hard to “say nothing”. I think they’re hideous, which is roughly what I think of Cyclops lenses.
