N22 Alex Sport Bracelet issue

Post by MiniMpi »

I wonder if you could help me please ?

Louise has an N22 Alex Sport on a bracelet.
Recently I've noticed that the link of the end link by the case is opening up occasionally.
I'm not sure if these had collars as well or not ?

Any ideas on how to fix this ?
Maybe a thread locking compound ?

It's very annoying when it opens and I'm worried it will fall off her wrist.

Thanks in advance,
Ferg.

Bit of beard-stroking going on here....

If there's no threads what would thread locker achieve except maybe gumming up the pinhole to remove free play?

I'm guessing that swapping out the offending link isn't an option?

I wondered about reversing the bracelet parts to move this link away from what sounds like a point of maximum leverage, work or stress: this might help but you're still going to be concerned about the link falling apart?

Any thoughts of putting a slight bend in the pin to create a bit of friction?

Hmmm, I need coffee....

Thanks mate.

It's a tricky one alright.
I can't work out how to stayed in from new, my only guess was there were collars there.

Any other ideas ?

That’s a lovely watch!

Do the two links in the second photo slide together around a center link? Is that how it works? Hard to imagine how a collar would get lost outside of purposefully disassembling the links.

If the pin of one link side slides into the pin of the other link side, perhaps a drop of lock tight in the receiving end? With an eye towards being cautious with amount so as to not gum up anything as previously mentioned.

Or maybe a visit to a jeweler if restrictions allow.

Can’t hurt to inquire about this with CW.

Not helping, but surely there could not have been a collar, unless it only recently fell out. Without a collar, the pin is loose, so it wouldn’t have lasted this long unless it was somehow otherwise fastened.

Why don't you just take the other side apart to see how it all goes together? Use a tray so you don't lose anything.
I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left

Good idea. The collar will most likely live in the centre link, and will be too wide to go through the outer links. The pins should need some force to get them to pass through the collar. It's easy to lose the collars when you don't realise they are there, but the links shouldn't work apart on their own. That's the principle anyway.

Thanks everyone.

I have been in contact to my CW guru Declan Strange from the Showroom who has checked the inventory to see if any parts were still available but sadly not, also as it wasn't a big seller, they don't have any information on how it was put together.

There is a possibility of a collar or two having 'flown to narnia' when I actually pulled the link open.

I'm going to go searching for the box to look at the extra links and see if I can work it out that way.

I had a look at the spare links but they are totally different so I'm back to square one :(
Louise really wants to wear it on the bracelet so I'll have to have another rethink on it.

Is any part of the holes in the bracelet wider than the other parts. That might indicate a collar was in there. It can't be a totally tight fit, as you wouldn't want to be tapping the link itself to get it through the collar.

Marc at Long Island watch demonstrated a seiko bracelet where the collar is not a closed cylinder, and only seems to need gentle finger pressure to open it, see about 14 mins in.

That's good to hear Ferg, did you get to the bottom of it or just a straight swap out?

Just a straight swap out, couldn't figure out what went wrong or how to fix the original bracelet.
