Hmmm. Not for me, thanks Mr Sporran.Madsporran wrote:I may be barking up the wrong tree here, but what about a completely new type of design? One that is unlike any CW on the market - more pointing to the direction of Ikepod or Urwerk. I designed a 'dream' watch several years ago with rotating discs that provided a digital style readout (discs replaced the hands), and I think the Ikepod case is pretty attractive although I must admit whilst amazing to behold as an engineering concept, Urwerk watches are pretty, well, footballer-ish.
The development cost of a simplified design may be well above the reach of CW, but I would love to see what they come up with.
Please shoot me down quick if you think I'm getting carried away.
Just out of interest..... Would it be possible to replace the hands of a normal 2824 movement with ultra-thin discs for hours, minutes and seconds, or would the mechanism lack the extra torque required?

Re: The Forum LE 2010!
Sort of like that but the rotating discs would have hour, minute and second numbers etc and would be displayed through an openning to give a digital style readout. There would be no hands. Pretty hard to explain what I'm thinking and to be honest I am useless at CAD so would never be able to recreate my sketches. I agree about it potentially being a bit too OTT on the 'richness' and design, though I'm not too sure what the term Paneristi means. An expensive watch to me is over £500 . Just thought it may be fun to suggest something a little different, although it would probably be a case of style over substance.
It was really a question on whether it would be do-able for CW or on a personal level to muck about with a few cheap quartz movements and start a new obsession.

Yep that's the idea. Damn.... I thought I was being quite original too ha ha. Even though my idea does look quite different from those they are on the right track. Better think of something else.
How about a rotating 3-d pyramid with a little pharaoh that pops up every half hour instead
Or, what about a round disc with numbers on it, then some little arm things that point at the numbers.

Re: The Forum LE 2010!
Sorry, meant to answer that before... "Paneristi" is the name that Panerai enthusiasts give themselves and, as you can see from the link is the name of the single brand forum that many inhabit.Madsporran wrote:...though I'm not too sure what the term Paneristi means...
The shortened form is "Risti".
Their GTGs are a bit different to any I've been to...

I see what you mean.
What a charming group of fellows they seem...Good, salt of the earth types .
Not sure if my 110,000 mile 1 litre VW Polo, AKA 'The Beast' would fit in there.
Well, back to the forum LE... Has anything been decided yet?

Re: The Forum LE 2010!
I would like to get back to the OP for a moment.
I need someone with knowledge to explain if the "The Forum LE 2010!" thread and the thread entitled "The Next Forum LE" are connected.
Bottom line, is the original Forum LE2010 being produced or is the new thread a different direction with the 2010 LE?
Please help...much confusion.
Thanks.

Re: The Forum LE 2010!
This thread should be frozen as the work on the Forum LE 2010 was stopped due to various comments about the price amongst other things.
The new Forum LE has started the process and is in this thread
http://www.christopherwardforum.com/vie ... =52&t=4665
This looks like it will run into 2011.
All comments on a new LE should be made there and this one abandoned.

Just wanted to add a (admittedly poor) photo of my "Richard: InstantTime" watch from the 1970's - alas nolonger on original bracelet as another example.Loddonite wrote:Is this where you are heading?Madsporran wrote:Sort of like that but the rotating discs would have hour, minute and second numbers etc and would be displayed through an openning to give a digital style readout.

It's the Swiss made Concord Quantum Gravity (stupid name) and features an externally mounted aerial bi-axial tourbillon which uses cables to hold the cage vertically. Apparently.
(And probably a half a million dollar asking price...)
