C70 DBR1 Review on Horology Crazy

Post by ianblyth »

Good short review at http://horologycrazy.blogspot.com/2010/ ... watch.html

The watch design makes more sense when you see it posted with the model of car that it celebrates as seen on this blog. In fact CWL should post a picture like that on the web site next to the watch.

I knew that there is two models with different case back.

After much research, I found one of this watch on ebay. http://www.christopherwardforum.com/vie ... =6&t=39226

Last month, I saw the other model on ebay two. I had an appointment in Madrid for the end of the sale. I bet in advance without real conviction but I won :D

On my return, the watch was already at home.
Just time to open the box to see if everything is OK and the holiday season is here.

Last weekend, I took the time to pull out the watch and compare it with the first. I thought I would find a different case back.
When unpacking, I think something is different. But in fact, many things are different.

First thing, the box is different. This one has a white interior without plate. My first got a black/green interior with the plate C70DBR1. The watch was bought new by the seller (I have the invoice and all the papers) but maybe the box was replaced. I do not have any information on that.

Owners hand book and cushion are different too.

Another thing is different but I had not found yet.

That's it, I found. There is a white second hand instead of a red one.

Image

On closer inspection, I realize that there are actually two second handers. One white and one red underneath. The two dials are engraved differently.

Case back are different.

Have you ever watched that?

Sorry for the poor quality of my pictures

The big box with the green interior was part of the original C70 release. I had one and sold it. I recently bought an exact copy from a forum friend, though in a different box.

The newer watch is the COSC version. You are lucky to have both!

Do you think the box or the watch could be modified?

Personally I would keep them as they are, a lovely matched and contrasting pair! As I said, different release, different watch.

I misspoke, I was talking about changes in their 'past lifes'. I want to keep these watches in the same condition, without modification

Both watches look absolutely correct to me, as far as I can see in your photos.

I think that you'll find that the white hand is the chronograph second hand and the red hand beneath it is the chronograph minute hand. If you run the chronograph for a few minutes you'll be able to confirm this for yourself.

All 3 models are quartz.
The 5 case back is part of an original Aston race car body panel.

You can also check the "Notes" tab on the Spreadsheet in the Archives. It will point out the differences.
