Do you wear a different watch every day?

Post by missF »

If so, I’m curious as to how you choose which one to wear?

Do you have a set rotation that you follow?

Do you choose according to the style of the day eg business / home / sport?

Do you choose according to what clothes you’re wearing that day?

Do you choose the one that cries out to you from the watch box?

Do you use a spreadsheet to help you decide?

Do you have ‘high days’ like flieger Fridays that help you choose?

Any other methods??

Yes I do :D
...and sometimes 2 watches per day at weekends.
Generally speaking, during the week, I'll choose according to what clothes I'm wearing that day?
At weekends it depends what I'm doing, i.e. for gardening duties or working on the car I'll wear a "beater" watch and then, come the evening, wear something else.

I also maintain a spreadsheet but that's purely as an indication of what is being worn, or not as the case may be, point of view.
However, this makes it easier to identify what should perhaps be moved on.

Ive been wearing a different watch pretty much every day for over a year now. I chose mine in a morning as I got out the shower purely on how I was feeling and which one I fancied. No pattern to it really, just whichever one shouted out to me that day!

Since my last 2 or 3 watches landed, the others aren't getting a look in. The problem is I really do love all my watches but ive recently found a few that im thinking will be my "chosen few"

Due to this, a cull is on the way...!

I often look on my watch box (and the overflow :? ) and think that some of my watches need to be worn more often.
Sometimes I do actually select one based on the clothes I’m wearing that day. If I’m going drinking I’ll wear only certain watches. If I’m working in the morning I will sometimes wear a second watch during the afternoon and vice versa. Overall though I’m fairly lazy so I sometimes find myself thinking “what shall I wear?” and then just picking up whatever I last wore as its still ticking and I don’t have to set it.
If you can read this you are too close to your computer screen....

Yes, I do wear a different watch daily. I just choose them sequentially from my watch box.
Do you have a set rotation that you follow?
Yes, I have so many blue dialed watches (about half), that I do not wear blue two days in a row. Beyond that criteria, it is a random order.
Do you choose according to the style of the day eg business / home / sport?
No.
Do you choose according to what clothes you’re wearing that day?
No.
Do you choose the one that cries out to you from the watch box?
No.
Do you use a spreadsheet to help you decide?
No.
Do you have ‘high days’ like flieger Fridays that help you choose?
No.
Any other methods??
When I receive a new watch, I usually wear that exclusively for three or four days, then it goes into the watch box rotation. On occasion I will wear a watch two days in a row if I feel like it. I also change straps frequently, although there is no set rotation with straps and bracelets...purely capricious and random, which helps keep things fresh.

Work watch, choice of 2 Omega SMP/Bremont S300, change when I get home to one of the following
SMPc
North Flag
BB58
Sub
Explorer
Or if carrying out any extreme jobs Casino Solar
Days off any of the above, no set pattern, no spread sheets, wear what I fancy at that particular moment, quite often change during the day

I have 5 on rotation at any one time; 4 on a winder, 1 on the wrist. I switch every day, usually in the evening, to one of the 4, but without any strict sequence.

Every few weeks I take one or two out of the rotation and replace them with “resters”. Again, no strict rules for what enters or exits the current rotation.

I don’t colour match against clothing but I do take practical considerations - will I be particularly active? (Unusual for me, but does occasionally happen). Pick a sports watch. Do I need a Chrono today? When I travel (rare these days), I choose a GMT or Worldtimer. If I’m visiting The Wing, it must be a Bremont.

I also have a “worker” for gardening & other heavy work, which is a cheaper model but still very durable. I bought it for exactly that reason.
My name is 0uatiOW, but before you ask, no I don’t.

My watch wear is dependent on what activities I have planned for the day. They can vary from day to day hence no routine. I might also wear several over one day.

I don't wear a different watch every day. If I'm having lazy days at home I may not switch watches for a few days. Sometimes I'll wear the same watch 2 days in a row for work. I rarely wear two in the same day unless I switch out what I'm wearing to go mountain biking (usually wear my G-Shock for that).
What I wear depends on a combination of what I'm doing (my work necessitates a selection of "beater" watches to avoid unnecessary damage) and what calls out to me that day. No rotation, no tracking of watches.

I was discussing this very subject with Wyatt (0uatiOW) only the other day as we drove down for our visit to The Wing, Bremont's Manufacturing & Technology Centre.

He has already outlined his routine, which is somewhat similar to mine of 7 - 10 years ago when I was working and only had a small collection <12 watches. I had a couple of two watch winders and would rotate the wearing of my watches, keeping a couple of beater / tool watches for the weekend.

These days with circa 100 watches available to wear from my collection I tend to wear what I feel like, with no particular rhyme or reason. Some watches get worn frequently, others have maybe not seen the light of day for several months; but I like having them available all the same.

To respond to Lindsey's questions let me answer as follows;-

Do you have a set rotation that you follow? - Nope; even if I set up a rotation to wear two watches per day and three on Sundays I won't get through them all in a month. :-k :-k

Do you choose according to the style of the day eg business / home / sport? - To a degree yes, although its more like; at home / out and about / meeting girlfriend / gardening etc.

Do you choose according to what clothes you’re wearing that day? - Sometimes, yes. I like to be smart and co-ordinate the colour of my watch / strap with my clothes.

Do you choose the one that cries out to you from the watch box? - I've never heard one cry.  Seriously though I do sometimes thing 'Oh, I've not worn ****** for a while, I ought to give it an outing'.

Do you use a spreadsheet to help you decide? - Heaven forbid, and absolutely not, do I use some App on my phone to record what I'm wearing.  I've got an Excel Spreadsheet to record my Watch Ownership, but leave it at that.

Do you have ‘high days’ like Flieger Fridays that help you choose? - Most definitely. There's; FliegerFriday, WobblerWenesday, OrangeWednesday, Military or Marathon Monday, TridentTuesday (of course), TitaniumThursday, TynehamThursday, SpeedhawkSaturday/Sunday, ForumLEFriday. Shall I go on?

Any other methods?? - How many more do you want?  Seriously; I have a few watches that are LEs with a memorable serial number usually the birth year of a family member. These get worn accordingly.

I think that's enough to be going on with.

I generally wear whatever looks most appealing that day in my watch box.

I keep a spreadsheet to record what I wear each day, plus records of ownership etc, but I don't consciously use it to help me decide what to wear. It's more used to help me decide what to sell due to underuse.

Now that I work from home nearly all the time, I don't have to bother with coordinating with any clothes etc. But if I'm doing something manual that day, then I will choose from one of my "beaters" rather than the ones I try to keep in good condition.

Do you wear a different watch every day?
No. I can often wear the same one for days.

Do you have a set rotation that you follow?
No. I’m not that organised.

Do you choose according to the style of the day eg business / home / sport?
Only when wearing a beater eg. G-Shock

Do you choose according to what clothes you’re wearing that day?
No. I did that to some extent in the early days.

Do you choose the one that cries out to you from the watch box?
In a sense - I wear what I feel like wearing

Do you use a spreadsheet to help you decide?
Never

Do you have ‘high days’ like flieger Fridays that help you choose?
No

Any other methods??
Absolutely no method really. Except just taking one watch on trips does constrain the choices somewhat.

Do you have a set rotation that you follow?
Not really, but to some extent - see: 'high days'.

Do you choose according to the style of the day eg business / home / sport?
Definitely. I have a 'work watch' group and a 'leisure watch' group which is actually necessary since the Big Eye (for example) is simply not suited to steel capped boots, banging around on forklifts, hot water dip tanks and the like.

Do you choose according to what clothes you’re wearing that day?
Sure. I have a choice so why not co-ordinate? Today blue jeans and polo shirt so BB58 Navy Blue it is!

Do you choose the one that cries out to you from the watch box?
I choose what appeals in the moment, so long as it doesn't clash with my attire :)

Do you use a spreadsheet to help you decide?
Not a chance.

Do you have ‘high days’ like flieger Fridays that help you choose?
I confess that I do, for work at least. Hamilton Khaki Field for Military Monday. CW Trident Diver for Trident Tuesday. Dekla Type A for Flieger Friday :)

Generally, I wear 2 watches a day...my routine is to wear something from one brand for the daytime and an offering from a different brand for the afternoon/evening..more often than not, I make those selections late each evening, just prior to hitting the sack..
