How best to sell this one 6B/159

Post by Paul Drawmer »

Yes, after 50+ years, it's time to move it on.

I really have got fed up with ebay, and wondered if a specialist watch auction would be worth it. The truth is, I really don't know what it is worth.

Chrono24 has a few for sale including this one! The price is daft, I do not think my watch is worth anything like that. (£5k)

Interesting that the description says unpolished case, but it looks very polished to me!

I'd be interested to hear your advice on how best I should sell this one.

There is a very big collectors market for this type of watch especially if its one of the "super seven/fab four" (or whatever!) - the manufacturers commissioned to provide watches during WW2 for the services.
I think that an Auction house may be your best bet, someone like Gardiner Houlgate https://www.gardinerhoulgate.co.uk/depa ... /4/Watches.
I would first contact Wiltshire Watches https://wiltshirewatches.co.uk/ for some advice first - they actually verify and service/repair (if necessary) the watches for Gardiner Houlgate.

I have decided to send it to auction:
https://www.lyonandturnbull.com/auction ... 6&pn=2&g=1

I'd be happier if they had got the description correct. The recase was a MOD job, and not only JLC were done. In fact the white faced JLC is one of the rarer '56 recase exaamples.

I had sent them a full description and some notes about the recase, but they seem to have ignored it.

I'll let you know how it goes after the auction on 22nd October.

This will be interesting to follow. The description does go into the re-casing, but maybe not as correctly as it should do?

Paul. Are you happy with the estimate range, and maybe your reserve? Are there any JLC forums you can use to make sure there is a decent awareness of the sale?

If it sells, the minimum I will get (after deductions) will be better than the best offer I had received. So it seems OK to me. If it sells.
