That’s where I got the idea from Chris. I noticed that they put his on the dyno and it should have produced around 211bhp…it was actually at 235!! I think this little thug I’ve bought may be doing something similar tbh….🙏

Thanks for the further comments gents.

An article this morning in BBC News; Business bears out comments above about second hand car prices and the used car market.

Second hand car sales soar amid shortage of new models

Ultimately, my inclination is to buy new, and I don't mind a six month wait for an order to be fulfilled. Plus interest rates on a new car PCP are favourable over used.

This is coupled with Yeti being only worth a couple of grand net of costs for defective bodywork (lacquer peeling off front bumper, bonnet, door mirrors) and costs to revert certain of my performance upgrades to OEM specifications.

On the other hand, I kinda would like to get my money's worth out of expenses for complete new front brakes (due to a seized calliper), new summer tyres and a cambelt & water pump change from within the last 12-15 months.

Decision making pendulum is still swinging.

A twist in the tale (pardon the pun).

I'm currently sat in my Skoda dealer on a while-u-wait appointment whilst the Service department take a look at Yeti.

I've been getting front wheel spin in the wet recently, which makes me think there is a fault in the Haldex 4WD system. Whilst there is no warning light available to indicate an issue, there ought to be fault codes stored in the ECU.

Waiting to learn the diagnosis.

^^^^ Not good news folks. :( :(

My suspicions were confirmed, there being a fault in the Haldex 4WD system. Its fixable with a Repair Kit which includes a new Haldex pump, fitted price inc.VAT £1,275; that's around 30% of the value of Yeti.

OK, using an independent garage ought to trim the cost to, maybe £750 / £800 but, at the end of the day, is it worth it?

I have a feeling I will likely end up with a new car and am looking at the options.

I had a good poke around the Volvo at the recent motorshow. It'd a great bit of kit and where my money would go.

From memory the Haldex runs in 2WD until it detects slip - so drive like you are on your driving test and it'll be fine. :)

That's what I've been doing for the last couple of weeks Chris and may do for a while longer, depending on what the availability of a replacement might be.

Sorry to hear Kevin has a sick 4x4, I know how he feels after a few miles under my belt.
I also know where my (petrol) head would be at this point though. I would be scouring the dealers/classifieds for my next Bahnstormer 😉

^^^^ Thank you Stephen. You're dead right.

I had a good chat today with one of the Sales Team, who I used to work with, to gauge the market and availability.

There's nothing really out there that meets my ideal specification, but there are a few good compromises that I have emailed off this evening to ask for some figures on.

I've got fingers crossed.

Guy, it sounds like time to pass Kevin on to a new owner.

I was faced with this situation on my wife's Fiat Panda which needed quite a few repairs and was getting on a bit. It made a lot more economic and financial sense to move it on, I got a good trade in and another, newer, Panda!

One thing to add is that I'm trying not to get too big a car.

My Yeti is a pretty perfect size. The Karoq/Ateca/V40 are slightly larger and acceptable, the Formentor is a tad long but OK as its otherwise stunning / gorgeous.

Looking forward to hearing your suggestions.

Guy
I don’t know what it is, and the wife doesn’t understand it either, but there is something that really appeals to me about the Yeti. Always has done. I can only compare it to the times when I get a particular watch in my head and simply can’t get it out of there. The Tag Monaco was one then the Breitling Navitimer, both of which I now own. I’ve got a fairly new Jaguar XFS and the missus has a recently bought Mini Coupé JCW but we mainly rattle about in a Toyota Yaris on a ‘54 plate that I bought, 5 years ago from my friends scrapyard for £450! These pics aren’t helping with the Yeti itch though so I suppose it’ll have to be scratched at sometime. (The Mini is going nowhere however!)

My wife, who has just above zero interest in cars, also has "a thing" about the Yeti. It's a real shame that Skoda dropped it from their range as it was something genuinely a bit different.
I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left
