Watch adages

Post by strapline »

I recently commented on a YouTube watch channel regarding people being too scared to wear their watches because of their value, or for fear of damaging their prized asset, which is tantamount the same thing. A lot of people left remarks and most it seemed were of the opinion that watches are for the wearing, no matter their value. Anyway, more to the point, a number of people came out with quick, succinct, snappy remarks, some of which were very good indeed. It made one come to my mind which I posted, with a couple of people replying saying they really liked it. So here it is:

Wear your watch out, before your watch is out.

I'd said this because a number of people had said there was no way they were going to try and keep their prized watch in mint condition only for the next person to inherit it on their passing, and thus be the person to realise optimum capital gains.

Now this 'adage' post shouldn't be limited to whether one should wear and enjoy expensive watches, or just shepherd them away for safe keeping. I'm curious to hear if members on the forum have adages, sayings etc that shape, define or influence their watch buying, wearing or collecting habits.

"I'm not wearing my watch out, I'm wearing it out out" Ref M.Flanagan.

Sorry couldn't unsee that.

My current position on watches, makes the following true for me.

"Do I need another watch ? No.
Do I want another watch ? Yes."

Ah, Steve...that ever pervasive battle between want and need. Why is it that want wins out so many times??
