Oh no Bungle-actor. I love the randomness of this and the contributions so far. This is on my early short list for thread of the year!

Customer service in many area's is so poor these days. May you consider gathering the fleas off a rat and posting them to them. That way you may feel better.

I suspect your above them don't let it bother you. One day you may find a decent dealer and get quality service that will make them richer. ( I didn't mean the dealer known as "Baz" who sends out 9 year olds to deliver/collect for him)

England is ostensibly on the Metric system. Why are distances measured in miles, weights in stone (unless cooking), beer in pints, and oven temperatures in seemingly arbitrary numbers from 1 to 9?

Do you mean just England or do you actually mean the UK? It's the same all over. A

The metric system has never been fully embraced (or at all) here. KG's area the only weight measurement used these days in all aspects. Or at least, weight is recorded medically in KG and food is sold by the KG. You still have the old skool recipe books that will refer to pounds and ounces and people in their 40's that weigh themselves in stones.
You'll only get to buy beer by the pint in a pub as it's measured by litres/ml in the bottle or can. Ovens measure in centigrade and the numbers 1-9 you refer to is only for a gas oven, where their is no real idea how hot it is.

I am of a generation that started in Imperial measures, then told once we had mastered that to forget it all and learn "Metric".

This I suspect led to the "3 day week", and rubbish piling up in our streets.... it does not work. Bring back Imperialism, not "wokism"

It also led us to believe that the "European's" were wrong.... I can back this up with a very famous rousing lyric from a band from the North of the border

"I would walk 500 miles, and I would walk 500 more..."

Would not have been such a hit or work if it read

I would walk 800 kilometres, and I would walk 800 more

Our miles sound more manly than kilometres. We don't need big numbers to make distances appear longer, yet quicker to cover. I suspect shandy swilling runners and cyclists use kilometres to show off to friends as "I did 60k today!" sounds like they went further than 40 miles....but they didn't they would have had to do 64k's

Beer must come in a pint....not one of those silly tall glasses with 4 inches of froth on the top. That's why we have Pints...full to the top. We Brits do not want to be seen off in the Pub

I listen in distain to people who talk about temperatures in Deg F when it is warm (because it sounds hotter) yet when it gets colder switch to degrees Celsius because it sounds colder ( maybe that's a rant that should be on another thread ? :) ) ( I digress...where was I?)

I can't explain the weight issue.... other than I weigh less in stones than Kg's So it works for me :)

Cooking is easy 1-9 if you are on gas, and Deg C if you are on electric

May I take this opportunity to congratulate "Pru" on becoming a "Dame" this evening (It's a "bake off thing")
