Indeed I am. As I reflect back on it, I don’t know that W&M had a strong ring culture. There were certainly no traditions like you describe with your sister at MIT.

I would guess I was driven by a strong family tradition more than anything. As implied earlier, I have very strong memories of my father and grandfather and their college rings, especially because they were very traditional style rings. (Fun fact: my college roommate had to battle with his parents over his college ring because his father insisted it HAD to be a traditional style!) I doubt my own children will carry such strong memories of my ring around.

My informal polling over on IG definitely has me in the minority. The few who’ve responded that they do have a college ring also said they never wear them. Only one person chimed in with a “yes, and I wear it all the time.”
