Had a bit of an adventure today when a static green light turned to flashing blues, right before my eyes. Pleased to say that my brakes work. My lunch ended up in the footwell though!
On the actual video (these are stills) you can see that we both braked hard & he almost stopped right in front of me. The speed on the video didn’t imediately catch up with reality so you can’t judge the deceleration!

I meant to say earlier that I love that MX! Lovely green and I'm sure that is a fun one on the curvy roads!

Also a question for you downer. Once the 4runner is paid for in a couple years I have been considering getting a F750 GS. It would be my first bike but I love the idea of some adventuring on 2 wheels as well. Any thoughts on the BMWs? I haven't ever done motorbikes before, but I did competitive road cycling as a teenager so feel quite comfortable on 2 wheels.

That is simply the coolest thing I think ive ever seen!!!! THAT IS EPIC! You guys over the water do camping and offroading sooooo much better than us Brits!
I drive an estate car (maybe referred to as a station wagon..?), which isnt very offroad but gets to 60mph in under 5 seconds and fits my 8 1/2st dog in so itll do for me!
After seeing that piece of camping awsomness, I feel it absolutely necessary to try to get one of those contraptions strapped to my roof immediately!

Well, before the R1250GS I had an F750GS.

So I guess I'm a BMW fanboy. Seriously though, they seem pretty well built to me and offer a good specification.

The F750GS was my first bike on my return to biking. I'd had a few bikes as a teenager but decided to re-start when I retired at age 57. The F750GS was a good starter bike, plenty of grunt but not too much to be scary. I've also ridden an F850GS and the difference is quite noticeable. The 850 is also a better off-road bike if that's important to you.

Thanks for the insight! It would be my starter bike. My thought would be that it would be used mostly on the road, a secondary commuting option some days to burn a little less gas overall commuting to/from work. However, also capable of a little adventuring when I want to head out in the desert to shoot or hike without needing to take the full SUV. Seems like the 750 would be the fitting option for that use case.

What do flashing blues mean?
The flashing blue lights atop the Paramedic car.
In conjunction with the siren, they’re known as Blues & twos. (Two tones or nee nahs).

Ahh, that makes sense now. I misunderstood and thought the traffic signal changed from green to flashing blues. Now I feel like an idiot, having missed the obvious!

Glad you enjoyed! I love getting out and doing adventures and have really enjoyed having the roof top tent. Speaking to your side of the pond I would love to someday get a right-hand drive Land Rover Defender. I actually recognize "estate" although that does confuse most on this side of the pond.

It may be a good idea to get something small, light and used as your first motorbike. It will hurt less (physically and financially) when you drop it. And you will drop it as a new rider. Adventure bikes are cool but usually also have a high center of gravity. When they start to tip over, it can be tough to control 500 lbs of top heavy bike.

Start with something like a 250-350cc as a first bike. Learn what kind of riding you will be doing and go from there. The desert is different story. I have toured California, Nevada and Arizona but you better are prepared when you take an adventure bike off-road.

I had a Suzuki V-Strom DL1000 in 2005. About 100hp and pretty quick, even loaded up with luggage. Took her on a trip from Michigan to Cape Breton in Canada. Even on paved roads, it still was an awesome adventure riding 4500 miles in 2 weeks.

I also had a V-Strom DL650 which is a bit lighter and not as fast. Still plenty of hp but a bit easier to handle when you go off pavement. Lots of great adventures with this bike as well.

Really great bikes, affordable and reliable. It is not uncommon these go 100K+ miles with just maintenance and no major repairs.
