With regards my own game, I'm hitting the driver and irons as well as I ever had, but I must tidy up my short game and course management, as from 30 yds in I'm taking too many shots.
Putting is ok, so it's the chipping where I'm struggling.
I did try a chipper, but I try not to use it, as it's as unreliable as my wedges and irons. And hasn't got the feel.
I'm going to try laying up to 60 or 100 yrds next time out, as at that distance I'm pretty confident. With my Lob and pitching wedges.

P.s.
My friend just played The London Club.
He was blown away by it, and highly recommends it, if you get the chance.
Unfortunately it was on a work day, so I didn't get the chance to go this time.

Regards Steve
Steve,

Please please don't use a chipper at least until you've watched some YouTube videos about short distance chipping or better still had a lesson for chipping.

My short game was total garbage for a long time then within 15 minutes of a 30 minute lesson it all clicked and I found out how to use the wedges. I'm not always perfect with them (who is with any of their clubs all the time ?) but I usually save a load of shots now. It is so much more satisfying to be able to use 1 of a selection of wedges than resorting to a chipper.

If a lesson doesn't work and you have to go to a chipper make sure it's a legal version if it's a pre-owned - it cannot be a 2 faced chipper.

The London Club is a great place - 2 courses, The Heritage and The International and I've been fortunate to play both of them as each is very different to the other and both are a real test of your game. The Heritage is exclusively for Members and their Guests but often they have good value food and golf packages to play The International and this has excellent par3s that will test your accuracy and confidence in your hitting distances.

Regards

This thread is missing something. Another dimension, perhaps? We all like photos, especially lovely green countryside type photos.

How about a photo or two of your Golf Courses?

A picture paints a thousand words, don't you know.

Guy,

Often photos of golf courses taken in a hurry on a mobile phone camera can look quite "flat" and boring as the quality and contours of the hole/course that the players will enjoy will not show up very well on a 2 dimensional photo.

If I do take photos they will be of a course that's not my home course as a keepsake of my visit and they'll probably have my playing partners in them. I'll check what photos I have and consider if any are worth editing and presenting.

Guy,

A few to view but, as I said in the previous post, none of my own course.

ETRETAT, FRANCE - Like playing golf on the White Cliffs of Dover

SHADOW CREEK, LAS VEGAS - A professional photo of a course I've played. It's the course where Tiger and Mickleson had their 1 to 1 match a few years ago.

NEW ZEALAND - Haven't actually played this one so just an example, sent to my by a relative.

Off to local club today.
Got to stop my mate winning 3 in a row, his prize if he does it, a free round next time at a bigger boys course and a free beer.
Oh and most importantly, I've forgotten the trophy, so I must win !

Been hitting it well on the practice range, and hoping to improve my chipping today.

Stableford comp this morning - I was playing well to handicap then on the back nine I wasted 2 good drives on consecutive holes with poor 2nd shots so they ended up as 2 non-scoring holes that messed up my card unfortunately.

Oh well, never mind, worse things happen, can't win every week

I remember golf. Haven’t been able to play since the 8th due to work, other commitments and an irritating 48 hour bug. Still can’t get out on a course until next Wednesday.
And the weather is lovely.
Bah.

Had a unique experience yesterday at a mountain course I haven't played in about 10 years.

Played with my usual group. We decided on this course as it has been redone and is now in excellent condition. It is not a long course but presents quite a few challenges as most holes are quite different. We played the #2 tees which was only 6072 yards.

We all struggled a bit on the front nine getting loose and trying to determine the best position to put shots etc. Not to mention a few bad ones per usual. The greens were extremely fast but rolled true. Our front 9 scores ranged from 45-50. Nothing spectacular for sure, but we were having a good time and enjoying the views.

When we made the turn something happened. We don't know what, but for all of us things just seemed to fall into place. What was unique, at least for us, was that when we finished the back 9, we all had identical scores of 39! This also put our totals for the day in a respectable range. In all the years of our playing together we have never had all 4 players have identical scores, never mind at sub 40. Off course this called for an extra round at the 19th hole!

Absolutely riveted to the Ryder Cup coverage.
Good start by the USA team.
Fingers crossed Europe can win this afternoon's session to keep it close.

As much as I really hate saying this, I think the Yanks will have a bit too much - the Europe team has too many rookies to be able to compete on American soil I think. I really hope I’m wrong though

Poor European team picks.
Ian Poulter & Rory McIlroy shouldn’t have been picked despite being big names. They haven’t been in form at all,yet Justin Rose has been playing well and was passed over.
The US have by far and away the stronger team, pretty much all of whom are on form at the moment.
You also have the huge benefit of home advantage for the US especially as nobody can fly to the US.

Can the Europeans may a run of it today?

They will certainly have their hands full.

I don't see it happening, but stranger things have happened.

Can’t see it happening based on what we’ve seen so far.
My predictions are below…which means the US will have won by the time Koepka & Wiesberger finish.

Schauffele vs McIlroy - US 1
Cantlay vs Lowry - half
Scheffler vs Rahm - Europe 1
Dechambeau vs Garcia - Europe 1
Morikawa vs Hovland - half
Johnson vs Casey - US 1
Koepka vs Wiesberger - US 1
Finau vs Poulter - US 1
Thomas vs Hatton - half if we are lucky
English vs Westwood - Europe 1
Spieth vs Fleetwood - US 1
Berger vs Fitzpatrick - half

I’d pick Garcia over Dechambeau as well, mostly because of all his experience.

But after Bryson just drove the green on the opening par 4, I don’t know! The guy’s driver has been HOT.
