A Time Machine

Post by nbg »

I saw this on another forum, but thought it may be off sufficient interest to post here.

There are a few of us who have bought straps from the chap who made the Time Machine.

A bonkers piece of engineering by Carl.

The type of thing that should be in the Science museum.

Mind-boggling. Does it mean that the 100th gear is turning imperceptibly right from the start? Because that takes me from cosmically huge numbers to cosmically tiny ones. This is amazing!

I’ve been following Carls’ build of this for the last year or so on Instagram. It’s a truly unique piece of quality engineering.

BTW, it also up for sale on the TZUK Sales Corner if anyone is interested...

Yes, the 100th gear will rotate from the start at an almost invisible rate.
Any one know how much it is for sale for?

Bonkers, but in a good way. Makes you realise what a blip in time we are.

This article has a video of another googol machine. This one shows how each gear is turning progressively slower a little better:

I don’t know that I can even fully comprehend what I’m looking at there!

I wonder it costs to get it serviced in 5 or so years?

It is a work of art and mind boggling. As Carl comments under the video on youtube, if you bought this you would be dead by the time the 11th gear has turned one full revolution.

I think £8,500 is very reasonable for such a unique and beautifully crafted item. I'm sure there are few people on the forum who have spent more than that on a single watch.

^^^ Agreed the price seems reasonable Patrick. I jokingly suggested to Mrs nbg that I was going to buy it.

She said that as we were decorating one of our rooms at the moment, she would rather spend the money on some nice wallpaper. :)

Neil, if you do want to buy it, go for it. Just tell mrs nbg that life's too short (less than 11 gears apparently  ).
