A lovely walk around Tarn Howes & Hawkeshead, followed by afternoon tea at the Cumbria Grand Hotel at Grange-over-sands today.

You found some great places. Love that area, Tarn Howes had been a family favourite for many years.Thermexman wrote: ↑Wed Jun 30, 2021 7:06 pm A lovely walk around Tarn Howes & Hawkeshead, followed by afternoon tea at the Cumbria Grand Hotel at Grange-over-sands today.

Re: Pics from the walkers
Thanks. It’s a firm fave of ours too. We’ve been visiting the lakes for over 40yrs and must have walked around Tarn Howes at least a dozen + times. My wife’s auntie lived in Bowness for many years so we’ve always had a connection.Ian Mc wrote: ↑Wed Jun 30, 2021 7:22 pmYou found some great places. ^^^Its been approx 21-22 ‘C all week. Actually feels hotter, out in the sun! Nothing compared to what you see in Oz though, I’d imagine?

A walking day today, up the hill to Windermere (the town) for this morning. Ended up in the Lakeland shop, with a vibrant water feature out front.

Today I took a late afternoon stroll to the Greenham Common Control Tower. Once probably the most guarded airbases in the UK. Now dedicated to the US Servicemen who have gave their lives in the name of freedom.

Re: Pics from the walkers
A few pics from a recent trip away.
The view along the cliff tops. Why does this happen! The cows decide that want to congregate at the very gate you need to pass through. It was almost as if the cows were being remote controlled by the owners of these, as a means of ensuring we didn’t get to close. The beach near our cottage at high tide. And low tide. Low tide revealing colonies of honeycomb worms attached to the rocks And a shipwreck from 1917, the visibility of which had altered over the years, depending on how the sand moves during storms. The first two pics being mine. This one from a local paper a few years ago, with more of the wreck visible. Somewhere to sit on the coastal path. Plenty of jellyfish washed up on the beach. The work of the lifeguards often seemed like herding cats. Trying to ensure that the people in the water stayed safely between the flags, the position of which were altered depending on the state of the tide. During the week we were staying the lifeguards had a mass rescue further down the coast, when 16 surfers and bodyboarders were carried away on a rip current and got into difficulty. A monument relating to the D Day landings. My walking companion, boots off walking along the beach, with another part of the shipwreck visible. Mussels for dinner. When I look at many of our unspoilt beaches on a lovely summer day, I do wonder why so many are attracted by travel to crowded beaches maxed out with sun beds. However I am thankful that they are.

Re: Pics from the walkers
Some lovely photos on this page making me envious, looks like some you've had some great weather in some idyllic locations. I've probably just had my two most intense work days of the year stuck indoors whilst it has been absolutely glorious weather in Edinburgh. I hope it holds up for the next week as I'm off now.

Re: Pics from the walkers
Opposite end of the spectrum to Neil's wonderful coastline views, I took a trip into Central London during this week, for a 'day out' with my girlfriend/partner.
We started in the City and, not only on the train and tube getting there but also walking around, we were amazed by how quiet it was. No doubt a legacy of home working.
First stop was the Sky Gardens. Not really gardens but more viewing terraces, cafe/bar and two restaurants on the 35th (top) floor in of an office block.
We then went via the Bank of England and Mansion House (note the lack of people around, even at lunchtime).
Then through to the Guildhall and Guildhall Art Gallery, which has partial remains of a Roman Amphitheatre in the basement.
In the afternoon, we went over to part of the West End for a wander around and window shopping on Regents Street, Carnaby Street, Bond Street, New Bond Street and Burlington Arcade.
For those familiar with the area there is a high density of Jewellery, Fashion and Watch shops.
I restricted myself to window shopping; honest guv.

Re: Pics from the walkers
Coincidentally Guy, I took this photo 3 weeks ago whilst also visiting the Sky Garden. We were down seeing my son who is working in London for the summer before he goes back to University.
Didn’t manage to visit the Burlington Arcade but our hotel was close to Covent Garden so did manage a quick look round the Bucherer store.
