Climbers going up the Southeast Fork of the Kahiltna Glacier Alaska. Annie's ridge in the background. Mount Foraker covered in clouds. Denali is to the right of the climbers. Circa 2001.

Actually, the air temperature was between 70-80 degrees. It is a really weird sensation. The snow acts like a solar oven. This was the same trip, mid June time frame. As an aside, my 1675 was on my wrist for this trip  Mount Hunter in the background.

Having had more than enough of working from home this week and tempted out by the glorious sunshine, I took advantage of a good stroll yesterday afternoon. I'm fortunate to live fairly close to the Stroudwater canal- a stretch which links the River Severn to Stroud and links up with the Thames and Severn Canal, ultimately linking Bristol with London.

There's considerable investment going on, including lottery grants, to restore the canal after eight decades of being filled in, overgrown and having railways and roads built over, but on a day like this the beneficial impact of a bit of fresh air and excercise on one's state of mind is just wonderful. What's more, after about 6 miles miles you come across Stroud brewery who are open again for a quick al fresco pint.

A good walk, nearly 11 miles in total, just what was needed to round off the week. A fitting way to explore some lovely parts of England on St George's day.

Gorgeous Rich and right on my doorstep too. I had no idea that it was restored to this level and readily accessible? Whereabouts can I park and access that walk from? It looks great! I’m at Quedgeley.

Hi Steve. Lots of folk riding their bikes along the towpath too. I can't think of any specific parking just for access to the canal. I guess it depends which bits you want to walk, and the direction you want to go in but there are a few options I guess-

Stonehouse main car park, free https://goo.gl/maps/o2a1LrephwfGbMiv9 or one of the residential roads

Small piece of parking just off A419 a stone's throw from the canal https://goo.gl/maps/5DVYMDjE24cJx5Qi6

Kings Stanley Car park, free https://goo.gl/maps/e97qKzgyuuso5yiA8 or one of the residential roads

Stroud Council Offices / Gym car park (not sure about restrictions) https://goo.gl/maps/ZL3gVSkaRtAVw5ad8

Stroud Cashes Green car park https://goo.gl/maps/eotVf8cQhMipPZCn7 - used to be free, not been there recently

Stroud Cheapside Car Park https://goo.gl/maps/fVr9c13sY6iR17257 - pay and display IIRC

.. and there's a few more suggestions at http://www.visitthecotswolds.org.uk/thi ... ter-canal/

That’s a good find! Nice to read a bit about the heritage as you stroll. Plenty of plaques to read as you go along too.

A 13 mile walk this morning in almost perfect walking weather.

I also went out via Scammonden, this photo is taken on the high bridge over the M62. A friends wife once stood at the top and commented it was a fair-ish height. Every since then we’ve known the bridge as the furry sh*te bridge.

Finally a water tower on Scammonden reservoir. This always reminds me of something out of star was and I half expect to see a stormtrooper on guard one day.
