Re: Pics from the walkers
^^^Great shots, Wyatt. An interesting and picturesque part of the country!
Ten years ago today I was packing this little lot: a bag of walking gear, accessories and bits and bobs.
The next day I would fly down to Biarritz to begin the Camino de Santiago. If you ever wondered about my avatar, the scallop shell one of the symbols of the pilgrimage.
The route: I'll post a few pics of the best bits.

10 years ago today. Breakfast in France, a tough 27 km slog, crossing a Pyrenean mountain pass in the mist, dinner in Spain and a night in the monastery.

Lockdown has been tolerable for us due to the numerous footpaths on our doorstep.

Some lovely open country there, Neil – but I suspect we could both do with a few hills on the horizon!

Bigger hills would be good Steve. We are struggling at the moment to get hill fit for a trip to the Lake District in May.Amor Vincit Omnia wrote: ↑Sun Apr 04, 2021 1:34 pm Some lovely open country there, Neil – but I suspect we could both do with a few hills on the horizon!
Fortunately it isn’t completely flat where we live. We are at about 450ft. Even on a short 3 mile walk, either into and around the local town, or dropping down the fields behind the house, the ascents and descents are just short of 1,000ft.

Re: Pics from the walkers
A short drive for a socially distanced meet up with friends, managed to take a few pics, albeit in a more urban environment.
A house which apparently had a dark history. A notorious and horrific murder took place nearby and the severed body parts, which had been scattered around the nearby water meadow, were taken by local searchers to the house. The house where the young girl lived was in a nearby lane, that led to the meadow. The river that runs alongside the meadow. Health and safety to the fore. The town council stating the obvious that the path is currently under water! Mind you it looks like the council have created a pleasant environment, with decorative picnic benches. The meadow was the scene of a battle during the English Civil War. The battle also took place in the nearby church yard. Apparently bullet holes from the battle are still visible on and around the church door. However I couldn’t find any. Neil

Re: Pics from the walkers
I regularly walk round my local area so decided to take some photos today to share with you all. I live in a beautiful area of Calderdale, a few miles outside of Halifax and right on the edge of the Pennines. We are quite high up and not far from the summit of the M62 motorway, the highest motorway in England. in fact whenever the weather forecast predicts snow on higher ground, it means us.
Anyway, this first one is taken right outside my house looking across The Valley to the village of Stainland
The next few are of my walk out to Scammonden reservoir. I did a circular 14 mile walk heading down one side of The Valley across the dam and back up the other.
This next photo is somewhere many of you will be familiar with, just not necessarily from this angle. You can see to the right of the photo Scammonden dam and the high bridge. The M62 goes over the top of the dam here and you can see the traffic in the photo.
These are angles most motorists will recognise. Anyone heading over the Pennines between Leeds and Manchester will have driven this countless times and probably not given any thought to the surrounding countryside.
Finally some photos as I headed home down the other side of The Valley for a well earned brew and sandwich.
Now what watch was I wearing for this? You’ll have to check the CWOTD/NCWOTD threads to find out.....

Re: Pics from the walkers
^^^ Iain and lancslad great pics of a couple of lovely areas. Just goes to show you don’t have to travel far in this country for fantastic countryside.

Evocative! If I ever remove to England, it'll be back to up north.

It doesn't matter what part of the country we live in, there is beautiful scenery all around us...its the weather that decides if we seek to find it....unless we are prepared to venture out in all weather's of course

Great pictures the past few days! Looks like the UK is about two weeks ahead of us with greener grass and flowers. Grass just starting to green up here Nice +14 to +16C daytime highs but still cool evenings (-2C)
Small collection of timepieces that I enjoy
