A quick New Year bump. We are still tidying lots of attached photos up for people. It's only cosmetic, I know, but it does look neater.

Once again, please read the top post. Thank you.

Bump and addendum

Once you have placed an image inline, DO NOT USE IMG TAGS. They are unnecessary and have the opposite effect from what you intend!

If you are still not using the inline feature properly, PLEASE READ OR RE-READ THE TOP POST.

Thanks. 8)

Thanks for that. I’ve been doing that more recently and it works well

^^^ I mostly use iPad and iPhone 11, and editing on the device always seems to work. I rotate if necessary and generally crop a little bit.

I never have an issue with orientation of photos.

Taken on my Android phone they are in 16:9 Landscape format by default.

Maybe, if they are too 'square', the software can't identify if they should be landscape or portrait, so you get pot luck.

Depends how the phone thinks it's being held... the software sometimes makes bad decisions about if it's being held "upright" or "sideways" and will record that data in the image/it'll impact how the image is saved. The gallery app on the phone will be clever enough to choose how to display it, but onward use of the image won't.

You can usually tell by the orientation of the small in-image icons in the camera app which way up it thinks it is.

Hi all.

Ressurecting this old thread since it discussed photo security and exif information. Just a quick and friendly heads-up that any photos which, after suitable resizing, are uploaded as a profile picture or 'avatar', retains any exif information and I've noticed one or two member's avatars still containing locational data.

The exif stripping which was introduced for forum photos does not apply to avatar pictures.
