Dickchins

Get out on that mountain bike now and share some photos with us.

Once you've got it out the shed and ridden it a few miles you will thank me.

I know you're right. Of course you're right!

I love my bike! I need motivation. Mid 40's and weight gain are both the reasons I should, AND the reasons I havent!

I recently put off going for a cycle ride for 2 weeks and still regret the rides I could have had.

Sue's grand daughter has taken a shine to The Monkey.

Maybe one day we'll both be out on our bikes together.

Had my first ride on a properly vintage bike the other day.
1912 Triumph 550cc (I think), not mine.
Single speed direct drive from the engine to the back wheel by belt
No clutch
Bicycle stirrup brakes 😳 i.e. not very effective.
Start by operating the de-compressor and pedaling
Lever throttle like a mower
Foot operated ignition advance and retard

Junctions are a challenge without a clutch - one of the others has to go ahead and let you know if it's clear so you can avoid stopping if possible.

A lovely experience and imagine how amazing it must have been 109 years ago?

^^^^I'm always envious of these pics. While it is always enjoyable to be out in the wind, it would be so nice to have a real reason to be out riding with a purpose.
Time and money? I’ve spent most of mine on booze and women. The rest I just wasted…

That looks fantastic! I've often wondered what it would be like to own a vintage- perhaps not quite that vintage though! I seriously don't think I could hack it- the muscle memory from riding bikes with what is now a standard hands/feet configuration would likely mean I would end up in a hedge trying to ride with pedals reversed.

With a reasonably good forecast for today and likely lots of rain for the next couple of weeks I took the day off work at the last moment and went on a days ride through the Forest of Dean and up through the black mountains and Brecon Beacons. Fantastic scenary, enjoyed every moment. Crikey my rear end regrets the hours in the saddle now though!

^^ That's a full couple of days Richard! The purple 'figure of eight' looks very much like the Ride magazine GPX I loaded into Basecamp as well! Have a great ride- hopefully in a couple of weeks the traffic will have thinned out a bit too.

Its exactly that route - from Ride magazine.

Hopefully, it's 100 miles from here to Builth Wells (morning day 1), 100 miles around the Elan valley (blue on the map, afternoon day 1), 100 miles around the purple route (morning day 2) and 100 miles back home.

So, 200 miles and 5-6 hours of riding each day. Should be doable. Just hoping the weather is half-decent. Either way though, couple of days with a couple of mates - should be great.
