Thanks Chuck! Sharp right enough - definitely differently shaped at the front end to your two!

excellent news, I'm very happy for you - everybody needs a dog in their life IMHO. As I understand it these make great pets, nor do they need a lot of exercise and I've known a couple that wouldn't go out in the rain. Took a look out the door, nah, back to bed.

Re: Show your pet!
A bit on the high brow side but how about, with your thoughts of something cosmic, naming him after a star or constellation in the Southern Hemisphere; given your connection to the Antarctic?

A lovely idea Guy - left fielded thinking I like! Most names are a bit grand for a dog. There is one called Puppis (!) but he’s already past puppy stage!

Re: Show your pet!
Looks like a lovely dog- congrats!
I'm lousy with names, but 'Sirius' of course is the Dog Star which shines brightly in the Southern Hemisphere. Not sure I'd want to shout that across a park though
Another Antarctic link could be 'Wilson' - a hero of Scott's fateful mission. Feels much more like a 'doggy' name

My consultant, psychiatric nurse and physio all wholeheartedly agree!
Thanks for all the good wishes and name suggestions. There are some brilliantly creative ways to name a dog, but yes - I come back to the very simple or very down to earth ones that would work best in the world!

Re: Show your pet!
Firstly congratulations on acquiring your new best friend, I’m sure you’ll have a long and happy life together.
As for names, when we (my sister and I) had permission off our parents to get a dog, we had the name decided long before the dog arrived.
For those who know the Beano, you may remember Dennis the Menace and Gnasher. The real life Gnasher was a small black dog similar to its cartoon cousin, but was about a far removed from his namesake as you could ever find. Calling the name Gnasher in a park meant members of the public looked round in fear, but soon seemed humoured by the black softy running towards them.
Get the dog home and a name will present itself soon enough based on its character, my current cat is not known as El Gato B@$tardo for nothing.

Re: Show your pet!
I too was turned down by a very well known London dog and cats home, simply because I made the mistake to tell them I was disabled. Lucky a neighbour gave me first pick of a litter of Westies. Six years on and my best friend Tuppence never leaves my side.missF wrote: ↑Sun Aug 29, 2021 4:08 pm
I don’t know if you remember but some months back I was completely disheartened to be turned down for rehoming a rescue greyhound because I told the kennel owners about my mental health problems. Their assumption (they didn’t even meet me or talk to me on the phone) was that I would be unstable and irresponsible.
Luna is a lovely name for a dog.

Re: Show your pet!
Not sure why some people are so stigmatising... When you’re desperate for people to rehome your dogs why not ask ‘what strategies might you need to make this work?’ rather than declare ‘you can’t do it’....
Glad Tuppence found her way to you regardless!

And here’s me and EGB right before he decided to attack my hand.
