Broke a tooth last night. I wrongly assumed that I’d struggle to get an appointment due to the currently reduced service that my Dentist is providing at the moment. I am happy to say that they can see me on Monday. Thankfully, it doesn’t hurt!

After a couple of weeks of generally pretty dreich weather, the dear old Met Office has finally posted a great big string of yellow suns for the East of England today.

Hooray! Time to get some shorts on, cut the grass and generally potter about – might even go for a nice long walk! 8)

Now here’s customer service for you. Bought a Nespresso Vertuo machine early last year. It stopped working after about a month.

Nespresso arranged a courier to collect it and loaned me a temporary machine. After two weeks, they said they’d diagnosed the fault but it would be another 3 weeks so would I like a new machine? Yes please.

Fast forward a year. The replacement machine has developed a leak.

Phoned today and spoke to someone who asked me to perform a factory reset and test another capsule. When it made no difference, I was given two options. Have another loan machine and wait 3 weeks for a repair or, we’ll just send you a new one Sir!
It’s coming tomorrow! Bravo Nespresso!👏👏👏

If the beer had been alcoholic, would they have been able to recall anything after lunch?

7 years ago, I bought my wife a lovely black dialled Christopher Ward W60 watch for Christmas.

5.5 years ago, she lost it. She left it behind in a hotel we'd stayed in for an Easter weekend away and the hotel said they couldn't find it. :(

This week, she was clearing out a cupboard in one of our bedrooms, a cupboard known as Narnia in our house as it goes miles back into some roof space, and found some old rucksacks. In a pocket of one rucksack was.....you've guessed it.....the missing W60 watch in tip-top condition! :D

New batteries arrive tomorrow and once fitted it will be as good as new again! Result!

I have decided that a positive approach to life is better than a negative one.

If my mother and father could live through 6 years of World War 2 then I'm going to get through Covid.

Hey Scooter,

My Grandfather was at Dunkirk, and finished his war in Burma in 46. How he survived the whole duration was incredible and I suspect one of the few that did. He was always positive. The older I get the more positive I feel too..... only sometimes the body is not succeeding as well as the mind :)

I don't often do well at keeping New Year resolutions, but this one, this year, so far is going well.... to try and cycle 3000+ miles this year

Morning and Happy New Year James

Dad joined up in April 1940 and was a paratrooper in 6th Airborne, 5th Brigade, 7th Battalion, and was dropped in France in the early morning of 6th June. Heaven knows how he got through that day, let alone survived the war like your grandfather.

On the cycling front my Strava profile shows that I managed 1565 miles last year and like you I would love to double that to 3000 this year.

Blimey Scooter your dad is a true Hero. Not many made it to the end from there. If you have not seen the series "Band of Brothers" it is well worth watching as it follows the men from "Easy" company 101st Airborne Div from their training to the end of the war.

Seeing that this is a "Non Curmudgeons Corner I shall not moan about my Strava account not always recording everything!!! How ever it managed once to record me doing 1.6 miles when I was out for 30...... I think I could have walked backwards quicker haha

Happy New Year to you and yours. I'm just going out now for a cold 20 miler :)

James

I watch Band of Brothers at least twice a year and coincidentally have just finished it again having binge watched it on Saturday through Monday.

As "Mike" Ranney wrote to Richard Winters after the war:

"One day my grandson said to me, grandpa were you a hero in the war? I said to him no I'm not a hero, but I have served in a company full of them".

My dad never once spoke about his war and died at 55 in 1970.

I should be out on a 20 miler too.

PS I typed the abbreviation for Richard but it ended up as **** Winters.

Hang Tough.
