Overlooked casebacks, interesting observations: https://www.fratellowatches.com/watch-casebacks/#gref

Anybody got the ..... 06 version of this with the sapphire glass back? IMO it shows a lovely movement.

Re: Caseback of the day
Some fantastic case backs here, even without the movements.
I changed to this watch earlier. Quite difficult to photograph because the bracelet gets in the way! But I love the Lion of Venice – symbol of Saint Mark.

^^^ It certainly does. I’m not quite sure how the San Marco range and the connection with the Republic of Venice came about, but they are of course a brand with a strong tradition in marine chronometers. Worth looking into…

Re: Caseback of the day
Some great photos and not really something I had considered essential in the past. This has now prompted me to look through the collection to find something to submitt.

Well...going back to the middle ages the Venetians had one of the most powerful navy's in the world, not to mention all the trading vessels, which traveled the globe and bought the city's rulers - the doges - incredible wealth. The Arsenal which is located at the eastern end of Venice was the largest manufacturing sites anywhere in the world, pre industrial revolution, occupying a huge site, and could manufacture boats on a daily basis. In short the Venetians were a maritime superpower. I guess that's not a bad thing to align yourself with if you identify with producing maritime/marine influenced timepieces.Amor Vincit Omnia wrote: ↑Tue Aug 03, 2021 6:09 pm ^^^ It certainly does. I am not a historian, just bits I picked up from visiting Venice.

Re: Caseback of the day
They certainly did. I’m currently researching the history of Cyprus for a book that I’m working on. The Venetians basically held Cyprus from 1489 to 1570, when the Ottomans invaded and conquered it.
Venetian Legacy around the Eastern Mediterranean is absolutely huge.
